Liverpool to belfast

Anyone on here ever did or do this crossing.
want to get a daily rest on this crossing but is it possible as will be in a day cab rigid as crossing is only 8 hours but what time do they board would I get on it two hours before it sails ?
are cabins shared on this crossing
want to travel on Friday the 12th but if I do the morning crossing and arrive in Belfast at 1800hrs which I think it arrives at I presume cause the day that s in it they will be a lot of road closures so is it advisable to take the night sailing at 22.00 and arrive at 6am sat morn as no major panic on the load till sat night sun morning or do the road closures go on through Saturday as well or is all back to normal on the Saturday

Dpends what sequence they load you, but I’ve always been more than nine hours on that boat.

Cabins most definitely are shared, asking for a single one only works sometimes. Usually if you ask to be put with an English/Irish/NI driver they will do so.

Sorry, no idea about the road closures.

Most of the roads will reopen at 6pm on Friday night so by the time you get off the boat you’ll be well clear of road closures

Done that crossing a few times, each time I was onboard for over 11 hours so breaks should be possible. Also … every vehicle booking includes a cabin berth which is usually shared with 3 other smelly ■■■■■ strangers, each cabin has a shower room, it wouldn’t matter if you had a sleeper cab because sleeping in vehicles was made ilegal after the Zeebruger disaster.

Doh! Just clocked the date you’re on about… I imagine there will be other things to occupy your mind than road closures. The weather is likely to be very warm and tensions have been simmering since the recent “fleg” protests.

From experience, the whole week of “the holidays” (as people refer to them) is best avoided. I wouldn’t advise travelling there at any time over the weekend. Could you not ship into Dublin and park near the border? Saturday night is likely to be very lively, if it is, Sunday will be too.

I advise against travelling after dark or parking overnight for those few days. Things are never as they seem and can get out of hand very quickly.

NB: The nationality of your vehicle or yourself makes no difference. You’re an outsider and that’s enough to single you out for trouble.

Trust me, I’ve lived it.

I’ve always preferred the night crossing if I’ve been sent this route back to Ireland. Always got at least a minimum of 9 hours rest. All commercial drivers get a cabin which is shared with other drivers, 4 per cabin when I’ve been on it.
The major roads usually aren’t a problem in the north with the ‘parades’ just some of the towns…depends on what time and where you’re going as some places are worse than others.

Get a cabin with the Irish lads they are good “Craic” as they say

Agree with all of the above but whereabouts are you tipping Friday and Monday are bank holidays in N.I if you are tipping in a protestant area I would say you have no hope of getting tipped. I would check with the firm to see if they will tip you. you can park at the petrol station in the docks with no hassle but I would be very wary about parking anywhere else as has been said the situation can turn nasty very quick and a rigid lorry or van are prime targets for a hijacking to be set on fire

I live in Belfast and get this boat 2 or 3 times a week. The boat departs Liverpool at 22.30 and arrives Belfast at 06.30. They load the fridge’s first to get plugged in then everyone else after. The earlier you get there the sooner you’ll get on. A 9 hour break is easily done. 2 to a cabin, 3 if it’s busy. Foods good.
TOTALLY IGNORE everything said above about Belfast.
Friday 12 July in N Ireland is a public holiday and most places are closed so best get the Friday night sailing. On Saturday you will find
Belfast like a ghost town as most people ■■■■ off to Donegal or elsewhere for a break. Unfortunately we have more than are fair share of wasters. Any trouble IF it where to happen will be in one SMALL area which you are unlikely to be in. The dark days of the past are gone. Belfast/N Ireland is a safe place, safer and friendlier than England so don’t worry.

Peter

Yep it is possible to get your own cabin if its not busy. Think it’s an extra £25 if I remember correctly. Foods not bad tbh.

You’ll see it okay, I was on it recently and everytime I’ve been on it it’s there. Eat as much as you can and believe me some drivers eat for 2 or 3

You haven’t read much of this site then.

Belfast is not one of the safest places in Europe to drive in.

The crime rate is not the lowest in the UK or the island of Ireland.

The country your vehicle is registered in does indeed have a bearing on your safety, I’ve had the same vehicle registered in different EU states and found new people to tell me not to park in a particular place depending on where it was registered at the time. A threat is a threat whoever issues it.

It’s not a country, (wee or otherwise) it’s a province.

That said, I would rather overnight in Belfast too. During any of the other fifty-one weeks of the year.

Dublin is indeed one of the worst places I have ever spent a night out, it’s a horrible place. However, Dublin bad doesn’t equal Belfast good, just because Dublin is a dump. There are degrees of dump, as ever, nothing is black or white.

Perhaps if “Orangefest” had been allowed to go ahead in Dublin, it would now be the utopia that say, Ballymena is, or Larne maybe.

Have a lovely weekend and don’t forget your fleg.

No need to wait. It’s very predictable, there will be some trouble tonight once they get the cheap beer down them but it only occurs in one small part of the city. Around 70 cruise ship’s visit Belfast every year. There’s one just arrived this morning with 4500 American’s on board. The city is buzzing with tourists so it’s not the scary city/province/region you have made it out to be.

And stop saying fleg. lol

The above is absolute drivel…suppose you were SAS and then when you started driving you missed the HoFE due to traffic lights being stuck on red for 30 seconds.
