Little plastic bits on the wheels?

Our trucks have all been fitted with safetytrims on the wheels. These nifty trims indicate and lock a loose wheel nut. When I do my walk-round the only thing I have to look out for is whether or not a yellow indicator tab has appeared in the window on the trim. The good thing is that if a wheel nut works its way loose during driving, the Safetytrims will catch it, indicate and lock it in place so it cannot back off completely. They work really well…
Apparently the company that supply them have now decided to buy all the yellow Checkpoint indicators from operators that want to change to their Safetytrims.

Have you got a link to their website please, seems a great idea!

Details stamped on the trims are:

Good luck…

Thanks alot!

Any idea on price?

They range from £6.00 for vans to £12.50 for HGV’s

Have a look at these wheel nut indicators, they are the answer in my opinion…

Philipa, as a successful affiliate marketer can i give you a tip, don’t spam forums, you will only get yourself banned, little is more if you know what I mean.

I actually thought about buying those trims for my truck until you started spamming.

Wheel Nut:
They are the overspeed indicator you have probably read about, when they get hot, they begin to melt slightly, if you get stopped by VOSA, then you will get an infringement. The mechanics in the workshop will keep an eye on them and report it the the Transport manager…

lmao :sunglasses: what he said ^

loose nut indicators and the like are usefull things exept when the nuts are rusted on the studs and the wheel is loose on the hub, mainly when they have little plastic caps to keep the dirt out but let the salty water in and hold it there.

Do nuts come loose anymore? I have only had one loose wheel in my whole career and that was only because I never put the bar on when I changed the wheel in the yard - 30 years ago :exclamation:
My motor now spends so much time in the workshop with services and inspections they don’t get a chance to come loose :exclamation:

Still worth checking, they may not be tight to begin with…

A famous truck manufacturer was servicing our vehicles, noticed an oil leak, got them out, they’d FORGOTTEN to tighten the oil filter up :unamused:

Ha! - reminds me of the time they forgot to put on oil filler cap after a service, first I knew was seeing a load of oil running down the front grille when I stopped at services :exclamation:

Your average driver cant check wheel nuts the can only visually check that is all that is required on that little vosa checksheet ‘‘visual’’

There are some visual tell tale signs though, unless it’s just happened.

Rust lines etc.

I hate the wheel trims we had on the DAF CF’s because it made 5 nuts look like they were loose because there was less thread visible due to the trip mounting behind them :unamused:

As far as I can see there has only been one loose nut on these wheelnut (not Malc) threads.

I’ve always wondered what these were for. What are the luminous little bits on the actual alloy of the lorry? What’s their purpose?

You had me there for a minute, I did have a unit recently with melted ones!

Sam, they are actually for spotting if the wheel nuts are coming loose. Note that two each point to each other, if the points don’t line up, you’ve got a loosened nut.

pmsl

We call them checkpoints

Theres a lad in work and he often has melted checkpoints, and complaining of smelling brakes and them being red hot when he is parked up.
…i think it could be his discs getting that hot the heat is transfering to the stud and nut and melting them.

It has been noted that he is a bit harsh on the brakes :unamused:

These type in the photo are the best ones. If they dont align then the amber beacon on the cab roof starts flashing - very intelligent system :bulb:

what you shouldnt do is park up next to your mate and then turn a couple of his little green arrows round the other way, i do feel slightly guilty though at 5am on a wet morning when he,s stood there in the rain bouncing on his scaffy bar as i pull up in the car

Happened to one of our drivers, must have to hammer them pretty hard though.
