Are these places getting worse , 1 1/2 hrs waiting for a phone call to go on a bay at donny , yet 75% of the bays were empty , I know it’s down to the isles being full , but why don’t they employ some more to clear them
The only good point was she rang me to tell me my paper work was ready & I hadn’t finished tipping the load by then

You are obviously not aware of the Lidl or Aldi business model. You ever been in one of their supermarkets?

Lighten up and give them a try, my Wife worked at Sainsbury`s for 15+years even with 10% discount prices could not match Aldi.
Totally different business model,is why they have made a success here in the UK. For example why have people hanging around waiting when they can be doing something else worth while. Never see cashiers sitting on the tills twiddling their thumbs waiting for customers or 5-6 different brands of a product wasting shelf space, which in turn reduces the need for excess floor space.
The other thing with Aldi & Lidls, as they are European the quality of their products is usually excellent too.
Aldi have manned checkouts. The odd time.i go to Tesco or Asda they seem to have less and less maned tills and more and more self service ones

Not high jacking the thread, but these articles are worrying, and you complain about a 90 min wait !!
Cheapy supermarkets not up to standard?
Last time i looked a bag of tate and lyle’s sugar, a 6 pinter of milk and a pack of British butter were all the same whether sold by Lidl or the most expensive place the faux middle classes could wish to be seen.
Tried the Cornish ice cream at Lidl? debloodylicious as is the Lasagne and their fresh baked rolls (Panini, yum), knock spots off the main supermarkets and good savings all round, Lidl don’t have any self service tills, no need their check out people are like greased lightning, you can scarcely keep up just pilling the stuff back in the trolley.

Lidl good in work only from 0600 till about 1300.They can move all pallets when required day or night. To many Lidl pallets go full to supermarket .

They do have self-service tills in Penzance, but what you notice when you use them is that they have a bar code on every surface on the item so scanning is like greased lightening even when you do it yourself - often the network on the self-service tills cant keep up with the scanning - slick technology, I guess it’s German.
EDIT - and it’s not a blindside reverse on the bay either there’s loads of room even for a novice.
I’m at Lidl 3 or 4 times a week, Southampton is the worst, Northfleet not far off. I always have a bay to go to, but since I have to unload in goods out, there’s always piles of rubbish there or I’m fully blocked in with pallets.
Paperwork is usually pretty quick (just an hour or 90 mins lol) but I can’t wait until I don’t ever go there again.

I shop at Sainsburys, Asda, Lidl, Aldi & Tesco.
I prefer Sainsburys if im feeling flush as its more expensive, Asda for the main big shop as its cheaper and wife gets 10% blue light card off, and Lidl for ‘strange’ stuff, I like their different themed weeks like Greek & Italian etc.
One thing though is definite, the fruit & veg at Aldi/Lidl is garbage. Usually rotting within 2 days. Asda isnt much better. Sainsburys and Tesco fresh produce is better in my opinion.
Don’t get any…
Aggro from Fortnum’s or Harrods.

Spot on, the cheese is the same which is a shame as it’s actually very tasty, don’t get me started on the bread though.
Only thing worth going in for is the middle isle & i can’t be arsed with that anymore.
The service & attitude of the staff can be quite strange & off putting.

Angus beef joints as well juddian, absolutely fantastic, sells out as soon as it hits the shop floor.
I used to work for Fox’s biscuits…
All the biscuits and nice cookies in Aldi & Lidl are from the same factory as the M & S and Waitrose cookies. Slightly tweaked recipes but half the price!
In fact all the own brand biscuits in all the supermarkets are made by Fox’s or McVities pretty much.

When ever an item of food is recalled they name various supermarket chains. It all comes from the same manufacturers.
One 1st jobs had when left school was working in warehouse for Durer’s jam.
They used put jam into Tesco value jars kwiksave and.happy shopper. Jars
All came off same. production line just into different jars

I used to deliver packaging to McVitie in Park Royal. Pretty much every supermarket get their non branded/value biscuits from them.
One notable exception I know is Walkers Crisps. I don’t think they produce/pack for other brands/supermarkets. The cheap crisps come from Kolak, incidentally also in Park Royal
