Anybody had problems with getting entitlement changed to what it should be ?
Thanks
Watchdog had a programme on this not so long ago and it seemed that if you had proof then not too bad but with no proof it was a nightmare with little hope of a satisfactory outcome
A driver at Ontime had a class one and it ran out, he forgot, did his medical and it came back as a car & 7.5t licence. I seem to remember he had to take his HGV again as no one in authority had a record of him ever passing it.
Not sure whether he filled forms in wrong but he was certainly driving a 7.5 tonner for a long time.
I always photocopy any forms or letters before I send them off now
Once got mine back with 3pts missing that should have been there

I lost my motorcycle entitlement when I dutifully send my licence for address change after being posted back to the UK in the mid 80s.
Not impressed. At all !! Mainly because I’d taken the “twice round the town hall, stop when i step out in front of you - here’s your pass ticket” in the late 70s.
It would be prudent to keep photocopies of all personal documents, mine are on-line aswell.
Seems they do not accept photo copies …
So if you want to renew fill in the lost licence form … if all goes well not a problem
But if you get license back with entitlements missing … you then DRIVE to swansea with the original in hand …
Be nice if i sent it off and it came back with more than i had before…

It happens a learner some years ago sent of for a c+e provisional when you could go straight for c+e and they sent him back a full c+e entitlement …
I had similar problem.
I send my driving license + counterpart to have D entitlement added. They sent it back saying that “to exchange it to British I have to pay”. Called and was told to send it again. Came back with the same outcome. Called and managed to speak with some manager and explained that I DO NOT WANT to change it and advised them to READ THE FORMS AND DO WHAT I AM APPLYING FOR INSTEAD OF WHAT THEY THINK WHEN THEY SEE POLISH LICENCE. He said "ah, that’s because only one guy knows how to deal with foreign licenses and he’s on holidays.
Come on! I don’t wanted them do deal with foreign license, I just wanted my entitlement and for that I am using BRITISH FORM, the same as everyone else, and THEY ADD BRITISH ENTITLEMENT TO BRITISH COUNTERPART. The problem is that the ■■■■■■■■ there are just too lazy and instead of reading my form they assume that I want to exchange my license and as there is no cheque attached they just send it back. (I don’t want to exchange it until I will pass my test as there is no point to exchanging my photocard twice).
So I was told to send it to some particular man, writing FOA of John Xish on the envelope, which I did. Then my license finally came. I had proper entitlement. So I provided it to my driving school and it quickly turned up, that I can’t book my test as MY DRIVER NUMBER IS INVALID. So i was calling back DVLA, but that was a problem as they were asking me my driver number on the call centre and then they were saying that they can’t do nothing for me as my driver number is invalid…
Finally I managed to contact some more intelligent and they promised me to check and call back, which they never did. After another few calls, I was told to call central office of DSA and book my test there and that if they will complain that my driver number is invalid, I just have to tell them that “DVLA told me that it should be OK and you should book a test for me”. I did so, and then DSA had to investigate. Another few weeks, another “we will call you back”'s ands finally after over a 5 months I was able to book my test…
Off course I was extremally unhappy as I had coach driving job promised for summer and due to that I wasn’t able to take it, and, also, I wasn’t able to earn same money from agency truck driving only, so I spent all my money saved for a coach license for living and now I am doing it very slowly a bit after bit every time some extra cash will pour in…
I complained to DVLA, but they claim that they issued me my driving license within two weeks and it was issued correctly and that it’s all DSA fault… Yeah…

Orys. I would seriously take that up with the MP in your area.
You write good English and the post is easy to understand. You can but try.
I was thinking about suing them, but I can’t prove that this job was promised to me (I have only an very old e-mail which says “come back when you will have proper license” but about that particular job I was having some telephone conversation, and they don’t want to be involved in any court problems).
But writing to your local MP (I don’t have mine own, as I can’t vote (except for scottish elections)) - why not?

You could try the Scottish man, at least you may be able to cause a war between Scotland and Wales

Would you be able to get away with that?
Happened to a Police colleague of mine a few years back - He sent his licence in for an address change when he moved house. When it came back, he simply signed it (as you did in those days - this was before photo-licences) and stuck it in his wallet. A couple of years later he was involved in a minor accident while on holiday in Scotland. Produced his licene to copper at the scene, only to be told “This licence doesn’t cover you for cars”. In fact it didn’t cover him for anything at all. He had lost his car, motorcycle, HGV Class 1 and PSV entitlements.
DVLA trotted out their “Nothing to do with us, the computer cannot lie” mantra and he had to retake all his tests.

How can you take the original to swansea when you have to send it off in the first place for the changes to be done?
for my hgv ive still got and will keep for future ref.
my HGV test pass certificate
and my pass sheet from the examiner, if thats not proof then i dont know what is should it ever be needed
My advice to anyone sending licence to DVLA -
Photocopy (2 copies of each) - paper licence and both sides of photocard.
Get copies signed as ‘genuine’ by a responsible person such as a policeperson, doctor, teacher etc (same list that is for a passport)
Doing it this way leaves the DVLA no choice but to put things right if they mess it up.
