Fancy me overlooking this fine example of a post-60s LHD British lorry! As far as I can ascertain - and the Scammell fraternity must put me right here if I am wrong - all the LHD Crusaders were supplied to the military in the form of a 6x4 unit with Rolls Royce Eagle 304 bhp engine and 15-speed Fuller gearbox. Of course, some eventually found their way into civvy-street as we will see here - and there were some pretty impressive examples, too. Robert
EDIT (much later): to say that (a) not all 6x4 examples were ex-military, as many were built for civilian use; and (b) that they were all available with 9-sp Fuller as well as 15-sp Fuller, as evidenced later in this thread

By jingo! I’d have liked to have got behind the wheel of one of these! Here’s a picture I took in Lisbon docks in Portugal in '86. Robert
A one-off LHD with Fuller 9-speed!
Well, the LHD Scammell Crusader, with its Motor Panels cab, its split windscreen, its super-strength chassis and its robust drive-line has always really appealed to me. Who knows: maybe I’ll get to drive one yet! In the meantime, keep your contributions coming, chaps; so that we can piece together a fuller history. Robert
Hi Scammell Crusader SAR457J was in Hills of Botley fleet at one time,I believe theres a photo on
trucknet somewhere showing it as right hand drive, but it was left hand at Hills

Good evening Robert
Both the two CRusaders I drove while at Pickfords Heavy Haulage in the early 1980s were LHD, and were not ex-military.
I remember feeling I had become “king of the road” driving them at just 21 years old!!
