I wonder if the forum sponsor does those on a residential course
Sorry, no. So much hassle with them I gave them up years ago.
Much, much easier (and cheaper) to use an interest free credit card. And I do those on residential, no worries.
Pete
Pete is definitely right about the credit card option but if cards are not your thing and normal banks are not very helpful we usually recommend Amigo loans. Criteria is very relaxed and the loan is hardly ever refused but you must have a guarantor.

You’d seriously reccommend someone get a loan at 49.9% APR to pay for training?!?! They’d be better saving for it in the first place, would take less time to save it than pay it off and not ■■■■■■■ them financially. 0% cards fair enough but 49.9% is shameful

Why would they care where the money comes from
True, but still, not keen on the whole approach, it’ll be a stressful enough experience without the worry of paying for it all.
Besides, bring a few illegals over the channel without getting caught in your car and it’s paid for in no time
I started by saying a card was the best option but not everyone has access to cheaper forms of credit. The 49.9% interest is the annual rate. Typically a person would only need the funds 2 weeks before the driving part of the course starts. Assuming a pass 1st or 2nd time and a job within say 2 months of passing he could pay the loan off in well less than a year.
I’m only offering a suggestion to the OP. I’m not suggesting a payday loan to fund it.
For many people the chance to get into a new career is worth paying some interest on a loan without which the dream could not be achieved.
Pay with one credit card then do a zero per cent for a year transfer to another credit card so you get the lot for 0% with a year to pay it back
Shame LGV training is not level 3 as would qualify for student loan. You could for example get student loan to cover operator CPC course.
I have even thought of not paying rent for just under 8 weeks. Keep below that threshold as they won’t be able to get a judge to evict. So you have effectively got close to £1000 interest free loan.
May only work with social housing. Not much use to those who don’t rent.
Risky perhaps but worth it if you can pull if off.
I have a grievance with my housing association so ■■■■ em.
Better to save & pay for it no loans etc unless you can borrow on 0% interest ( I have a very nice ex Mother in law that has helped me at times )
Maybe some ■■■■■■ work. ■■■■ maybe. Get paid for a few days work with Samantha 38G use cash for LGV training.
Any trainers thought about starting film company. Ready supply of guys. Everyone wins. Specialise in trucking ■■■■.

Or be on Job Seekers for two years and they would be throwing this at you. Our place is having some drivers come through the job centre. Only one of the 6 is worth anything. He’s about my age and is really keen whilst the rest couldn’t give a toss.

It’s disgraceful that the government are suppressing wages in the sector by reducing the demand and pay that would motivate a normal person to spend a few K to enter the industry.
It boils my …
They don’t seem to be interested in my area. Sent me on some ■■■■■■■■ work programme but they said they can’t justify cost due to me not having 7.5t experience. Tried to explain to these morons that there is very little correlation between 7.5t experience/no experience and passing C test. All they want you to do is sit in a room and flick through yellow pages. Got a slight mobility problem now so got a sick note for a couple of months. Don’t fancy going back to JSA. Pretty soul destroying. Hopefully i’ll be able to start training soon and see the back of them.
Too many people on JSA happy to stay on it.

It may be no solace to you, but good!
I don’t want to hear the industry bosses complain of a shortage and expect to pay the wages they want to. No driver should be earning a quid more than a shelf stacker while having the responsibility they do, while a shelf stacker has no responsibility whatsoever…
Employers want more drivers, then pay more money and attract them!!!
When I was on JSA for 8 months I asked about doing my HGV stuff, was flatly told no. Got so fed up with being talked down to by the person behind the desk I took the first job that came up. I worked in that cafe for a year and before finally being able to get a loan to pay for my test myself.

Out of the 6, only two have made the cut providing they pass. One of those 6, the one who couldn’t give a toss has been inside for assualting a copper, been caught DD, banned, been caught driving whilst banned and has speed related offences too boot. I don’t think he would be getting a job anywhere if he did pass!

While I’m glad 4 or maybe 5 won’t be entering the industry for free while others are paying, I’m still annoyed that any of these 6 are getting offered a free pass to learn a trade and profession for free, while it’s costing others like you and me our own money!
You lost money when an accident prevented you making it to your test and you were very magnanimous in that, which is highly commendable!
I think the industry needs a shift in power, where GOOD drivers choose where and who they work for!
So the government increasing the driver pool, at the expense of the tax payer to the benefit of the employer, annoys the crap out of me!
