When I was on JSA for 8 months I asked about doing my HGV stuff, was flatly told no. Got so fed up with being talked down to by the person behind the desk I took the first job that came up. I worked in that cafe for a year and before finally being able to get a loan to pay for my test myself.
Unfortunately the job centre are told to talk down to you as they are in fear of losing there jobs if not sad state of affairs I know
Depends where you live as to weather the job centre has funding for this or not again post code lottery
I thought this forum was all about helping new blood into the industry. If a training provider can offer 0% interest then surely it is in the industries interest to tell potential new recruits know about it to try and combat the current driver shortage!
Or is it that Peter Smythe does not want any competition posting on here which is why this forum has become very dull with less contributor’s expressing their views and experience!
Yer
I would like funding on HGV due to the cost you would think that they should realise that funding this kind of money is going to be tough so don’t Seem much help out there to fund it especially if credit isn’t to hot
HGV express do finance
On good credit
But charge
I’m still in two minds to do training or not
Hard to justify high costs
When I’m in a job already
If folks can still post on funding I be interested

If the LGV company you work for pays the same a PS then I reckon you can advertise as well
there are probably other providers on here who can offer cheaper training than PS but because they have not paid for the right to advertise then they cannot do so
Sounds like broker. They don’t seem to be the brightest in their choice of names.
I think it is many years of failure by transport companies not helping to fund training. That is what has caused the impending shortage.
Now you’ve got people trying to scrape the money together to fund their own training.
I suppose in a way it’s good that any tom, ■■■■ or harry can’t just fill out a few forms and start driving as thus is what is pushing up the wages for those who’ve paid their own way or been lucky enough to have someone to help.
The solution in my opinion is to do training the way they do car driver training. One or two hours per week over a period of time. I know some have said that you will lose the knowledge from week to week but that is ■■■■■■■■. With an auto that really is unlikely.
The problem is finding a trainer who is prepared to offer that form of training. That’s why I’m looking at Wallace in London with 4 hour lesson at a time. Still pricey at £280 but it is more easily manageable.

They stopped funding training due to the fact that they couldn’t afford to to it gone are the day of making money in transport that was killed years ago sorry to say
You should know how to drive if you have passed your car test you are only up grading your licence

You could always take it to a pm
Sorry but IIRC it did take you a long time to admit who you were as you did try to post as just another member not involved with a training school

To be honest I think Peter’s reputation speaks for itself and your comment just makes you look very childish and almost bitter.
I’m glad personally that the job centre aren’t funding Training costs for everybody at present, as whilst I’m sure there will be lots of genuine applicants and interested people, there will be a lot of people that do it with no intention of using it to work
I doubt there are any brokers on here who spend their time giving as much help and advice as Peter does. They are too busy ripping people off.
I think the price charged is reasonable, especially when you you take into account the 10% reduction if that still applies. If I lived in that neck of the woods I’d have no hesitation in doing my training there. Unless I’ve heard it wrong there is free b&b as well.
Sounds like a good deal to me. What I’m hearing on this site is what a nice bloke he is from those who’ve trained with him. At the end of the day he’s got a business to run. It’s not a charity. We wouldn’t be having this conversation if he wasn’t investing his time and money in supporting the site.
My reference to Wallace hasn’t been removed. Nor has the list of trainers detailed elsewhere.
We the ordinary member can recommend a provider & suggest a provider the providers can’t promote there business they can agree on a recommended provider if they so with & often have
But as Rog said Peter pay a lot of money to advertise then it is he who does all the others are welcome to comment & regular do it is also there help & advice that makes this forum
Other trainers promote themselves on this site, and their payment method is the help and advice they provide!
Sounds reasonable to me!
So exactly what is Pete doing other than just that?
Oh, he’s also putting his hand in his pocket to ensure this forum exists…

o this site existed before then for a long time tbh Peter just helps pay the bills & keep the site as thing like this don’t pay themselves
It has always been free but it has just grown to what it is now ( all the bills etc were originally payed by 1 driver who is still on here & still involved but that was a long time ago & thing have moved on & developed a simple fact of life
