LGV - Paid for me

Great post Sam

I only wish I could get some apropriate free training from my local Jobcentreplus but they do not offer it in my area for those over age 25

Apart for 2 x 6 months of unemployment from age 15 to 50 I was always in a job but since just past my 50th I have had 3+ years with no job and from the look of it, no great prospects in finding one suitable for my particular situation.

I really feel it for those youngsters in their late teens and 20s who REALLY want to work but due to economic circumstances cannot find any.
I cannot imagine how I would have coped in my younger days without a job and can sympathise with those youngsters who cannot see a light at the end of the tunnel
The Govt says that there are apprenticeships for youngsters but no guarantee of a job at the end of doing them - great… build their hopes up and then dash them again!! but I suppose it takes numbers off the unemployed register for a while…

Good on you for getting something back which you can put to good use

sorry bit of a rant over

Sounds like a good company Sam unlike the waste of space that i got they charged an extra £350 a time for re test .
:unamused: and then thought he would get more out of the pot but no he wont get another penny now enough is enough . do your reaserch on the company and you will know more …
Regards Roy

Thanks Rog.

I’m just sick of getting stick because I’m having something paid for me, like it’s a waste of money and I’m a lay around and all the rest of it. That’s really not the case, I went to school, I had a great education and i’m really fired up to work, I always have been, I’m not happy unless I’m doing something. The particular area I live in has been said to have one of the lowest available job counts in Scotland so that doesn’t help either.

Sam,

As said before good luck on you … Sorry I would rather my taxes being paid on the likes of you who want to work then junkies who get 1000’s spent on them to get clean then go back on teh smack wasting 1000’s … However if you dont want to do it give me the course I will sell it to someone!!!

Good luck and let us know how you get on Oct is drawing near Fast hopefully they will pay for your class one also.

Remember Sam, when you are working you wont get all this goverment help so make the most of it why you can and (ZB) the rest on here they are bitter that some (kid) in a nice way is getting something they cant.

Disco

good luck kiddo

Thanks mate. In Scotland we have a group called ILA who also give you £200 towards a course, luckily enough the company i’m doing my training with are partners with ILA so this £200 will be for my C+E.

Thanks

Hi Sam

I think I have said this before but I fully agree with you. I too have worked since the very day I left school at 16 and one of my hates is the people now who leave school, DON’T want to work and expect the government to pay for them to live. I had to laugh at a story I heard that somebody on benifits was moaning because their allowance was getting cut to £500 per week and no way could they afford to live on that!!! Makes me sick.

I admire the fact that you are wanting to work and good on you for getting your training paid for . You’ve got my support pal!

Thank you very much.

Gosh, £500 a week if a very decent wage in my eyes never mind benefits!

:open_mouth: , £500 a week , if some are getting that sort of money on benefits :open_mouth: …well no wonder loads of them don’t want to work :unamused: , ( theyre being encouraged/
paid not to work, & living off the what the government claws out of our wages) :imp: . Have you managed to get a starting date for your training yet ? I hope all goes well for you , good luck

All I know is that the forms that the Job Centre are sending to the training company will be sent off on the 17th October. When I spoke to the training company themselves, they said at 13 weeks of being on the Job Centre, you become a Grade 4. (■■?) Then she says once they recieve the forms, they ask you up for a short interview so see if your suitable for the training (I don’t know if this will include a short… (forgot the word  ) introductory drive? or an assessment drive?) and then she said they’d take it from there. Not long to wait now hopefully

Ignore all the others on here who seem to have a problem with you getting the course funded mate.

I too had a full time job 2 weeks after leaving school until I was made redundant at the beginning of this year. That was 6 years working full time and while I was working full time I also went self employed for 2 years in my spare time, which was fully legit and paid extra taxes on top of my full time work.

Just running a quick mental calculation I’d say over the 6 years I worked from leaving school I paid somewhere around 12k in taxes. That’s not including my self employed work.

I imagine you would have paid in taxes well over what your course cost so in my opinion you are MORE than entitled to get a bit of it back in the form of some training which will better your career prospects and also which will allow you to pay even more into the system for the alcoholics and drug addicts that feel they are owed something from this [zb] up excuse of a system.

Angry now

Good post mate. I don’t the problem when the job I will get through gaining this qualification will enable me to put back into the system what was taken out.

  • more :stuck_out_tongue:

Have an interview with the job centre tomorrow for what I believe it to sort out paperwork. Tomorrow is the 13th week of being on JSA and it is now that I become eligible for the course to happen for me.

I will update you on the proceedings in the morning.

UPDATE

Just back from the Job Centre.

My application is being sent away to the Training Company today for reviewing. It’s not a garauntee that the inital application will be a success - it’s up to the company themselves to decide whether they will train me but as I have already spoken to the woman who works there, I’m confident they will accept.

Once the application reaches them, I will next hear from the company themselves and not the Job Centre. My advisor mentioned something about having to come off JSA if the course starts but get an extra £10 or something? Maybe someone on here could tell me what she means if you’ve been through it.

Sam

Just got a phone call from Jim Mair - Got an interview with them today at 1pm.

goog luck sam !!! hope its good news

Keep us updated Sam.

If i was able to get a LGV course funded i would take it without asking. I am like you I’ve always worked for what i got and i been working since the age of 15 and i am now 28. The longest time i been out of a job was 1 week and that’s because i hate being out of work.

Good Luck

Mick

Hi Guys

Well, wow. What can I say really. I filled out a form and a questionnaire and then Jim himself gave me an interview. He asked if I know what this course entails, how hard it could be and stuff like that. He said he doesn’t get paid if I don’t find a job within 6 months of passing (no pressure then  ) and then he asked if i know my way around a truck, if i know what gearboxs they have and i answered all his questions, 4 over 4 etcetc and then it came to the crunch.

“What’s swaying you at the moment is your age and the fact you’ve only been driving a year”, he said if “I was an employer, and there’s a guy with 20 years experience sitting beside you, how do I choose you over him?” I just said well, I might be young and inexperienced, but my heart is set in this industry and I have taken many measures including sitting a pass plus course and IAM course to ensure that I am best prepared for what lies ahead as well as helping myself along the way.

Bottom line: He’s giving me an assesement drive and everything rests on this… I can only mess it up for myself and I know that.

I’m very very greatful that this gentleman has given me this unique opportunity that not many people my age have had, especially in my circumstances. I can only thank him again and again and I’m determined not to let myself nor him down.

Monday - 1pm, I have an appointment with him to do theory training.

Good luck

Who are you with then?

Cannot see what you getting a job within 6 mths has to do with him getting paid he’s done his job by training you that’s not fair on anyone no sign of any work through the contacts your family members
