LGV - Paid for me

Saaamon:

Sam Millar:
Probably because it’s LGV now.

That aside, pointless replies like “i’ll see it when i believe it” and things along those lines are pathetic.

Got an appointment tomorrow to fill out paperwork.

Steady on, your on your arse paid for by most of us on this forum. Your now telling us that your wanting to spend more of our money on driving lessons. We all had to work hard and pay for our own course, why are you any different? Typical britain, if you go to work, the goverment rob you for all your worth, sit at home and they treat you like kings.

And that’s my point. Most of you are sitting there thinking that you’re all [zb] better than me. I’ve HAD work, I’ve worked since I left School in May 09 right up until a few weeks ago so don’t hit me with that pish that you sit there and pay for my benefits, what a load of [zb].

I think you’ll also find a few threads further down the page I was looking for ways to fund the course myself before I was informed by dodester that it could be done in other ways.

How the hell do you think you get dole money?..

There’s a way to fund your course. Save up money while working. Easy enough to save 2k to get Ur licence

gogzy:

I know perfectly where dole money comes from I’m not stupid

I have other things to fund like my car, insurance etc. It might be easy enough to get 2k in your job but in the jobs I was working since I left school I think you’ll find it isn’t, 1) money isn’t the same. 2) hours aint the same either.

I think it’s ■■■■ rude people on here sitting looking down their nose at you. I just simply said to my rep that i was to ask if they funded HGV courses and she told me how. Simple as that, so don’t sit behind your computer flaming at me thinking all I do is sit on my ■■■■■■■ arse all day. I’m very eager to work and provide for myself.

Yea right now it’s easy to get 2k in my job but I’ve had my licence for over 4 years now and when I had to fund my hgv I had to work, I had a car to fund aswell you had a job for over 2 years if u knew u wanted to be a driver then 50 quid a month to save up is nothing

Believe me, it’s a lot when you’re forking out close to £300 a month for insurance alone.

Get a cheaper car I was paying 55 a month for my car in my name at 18. If its too much get a scooter

I really couldn’t care how much you were paying. I’m telling you what I’m paying/was paying, and while that was proceeding, I wasn’t getting enough money to keep back any more than I had to, it’s as simple as that.

Hi Sam
sure everyone on here wishes you the best. You are however trying your very best to wind hard working people up.

I do not think at your age that you could take too much abuse so please grow up quickly and thank people for their help. Respect others views and enjoy the unique good fortune you are blessed with.

At the end of the day whoever is paying for your course you still have to pass. You will NOT achieve that with a bad attitude.

P.S When I started training people you were -10 years old.

It’s a bit hard to believe a kid who’s just went on the dole is getting his hgv paid in full for him.

I know people who have been on the dole for longer who asked about funding for a course that’s next to nothing compared to a hgv licence and they were garunteed a job at the end and were turned down

Sorry, I don’t appreciate being referred to as a ‘kid’.

Steady on please Sam.

:bulb: It might be that gogzy didn’t quite mean “kid” in the way that you seem to have taken it.

FYI, you are very lucky to have been given this opportunity, because it’s not generally available all over the UK. I know this because I’ve been involved in the training industry since 2003.
BTW, that was after more than 25 years as a C+E driver, so if you’ll take a friendly tip from an old hand, you’d do well to pause, respectfully listen to (and then possibly thank) those with real post-test experience who have given their time to post.
Given your age, I’d say that means just about everybody who has contributed to this topic.

Hello again Sam
Firstly i dont think that saaamon was being nasty mate when he said ( lets see it happen first ) take it from one who knows only to well about this funding .
And i know why you were offended by people saying you have only been out of work two weeks and got it payed for by tax payers because I was   over that comment too so im gonna put that streight …
First … i was NOT on the dole I was on carers benefit £50 a week as i have looked after my father in law round the clock for the last 5 yrs he has parkinsons so i know what hard work is ( ever had to change or bath an old man some times twice a day I HAVE ) and at first I was working and looking after him im 54 yrs old so i think that before I became a carer i have put more enough money into the system . not every one who is on the dole whants to be there and Sam id say you dont or you would not have asked about funding back in to work . Yes I got funded but guess what im now back in work on nights full time as soon as i get my class 1 thats not a maybe thats a definate . Plus I will still have to Look After dad in my time off when most people are enjoying them self out in the pub with there mates … … We have just managed to keep our heads above water never mind save up for the last two yrs …the altertative was stick him in a Home
Would you like that because im shure i would’nt …when im 90 .yrs old …
ENOUYGH SAID i think .

Why shouldn’t the job centre fund his course? It’s worth sod all these days anyway. Can earn more cash waiting tables in nandos.

This guy has been on the dole 2 weeks and look what he has achieved. Want to have a go at someone? Have a go at people who sit on there ■■■ all day feeling sorry for themselves because they have no options. Truth of the matter is, the job centre will fund this because it’s not worth saving up and paying for it when there are better paid jobs out there.

I got my licence free.

Judge me.

I’m being told to steady on by a MOD by saying I don’t appreciate being referred to as a kid? Are you having a bloody laugh?

I might be 18 but i ain’t gonna stand for no ■■■■ off some men who think i’ve been living on their money for a good couple of years then all of a sudden have had everything done for me. I’m here where I am now because I want to work. Eat humble pie because really, there are millions of others out there who are doing drugs and living off every benefit under the sun, then there’s poor old me, looking for a bloody job to fund my own way.

ps; thanks to those on my side, i appreciate it.

get used to getting {zb} from drivers for being a newbie, youll be wet behind the ears till your about 25.

you bite to it youll just get more abuse for it.

dear dear dear , think someone else should be getting told to leave it also mod :open_mouth:

Sam,
Congrats on hopefully getting the funding.

It is good to see an 18 year wanting to work and not loot etc. So what if he pays for it or the goverment fund it … they do F ALL for youngsters of today.

If I recall correctly your in Scotland some parts are not very good for jobs.

If you had of seen the programme the scheme you would see most of the youngsters end up on Drugs or in Jail.

So 3k being spent on this “(kid)” is worth every penny as it is probs coming from some european training fund. … I do not mind paying my taxes for youngsters who want to better themselves, Sam that 300 quid you saved towards your costs will pay for a months insurance now good luck and ignore bitter people just be grateful you get the money and dont have to pay good Luck.

Tell them about Peter Symthe training.

he wil give you a guareented pass scheme! and somewhere to stay why you do it.

I will tell you something Sam, you don’t half know how to alienate people, you left school recently, you are very fortunate to have gained funding as the government and local councils are cutting budgets every day.

If you take umbrage about being called a kid, when you are on a drivers forum, wait until you have to go into a yard for a load or sit in an RDC waiting room, the older “men” will rip the ■■■■ out of you, it becomes a sport. In my eyes, Gogzy is still a kid, and in Chris Webbs case. I probably am.

As for having a gentle dig at the moderator, you may find in future days and weeks he will be there to answer any questions about training, driving or ADR. There probably isn’t a finer man in his field, certainly not one who gives out absolutely correct advice FOR FREE.

Here is a great book you could read while waiting for your funding to be arranged.

Thanks buddy.

I actually live in that area of “The Scheme” and I’ve always been determined to grow up and prove others wrong. I went to School, had an education and passed my Standard Grades and all the rest of it but as you said, this part of Scotland is very very hard to get a job in. Kilmarnock is a small town for the population that live here and it would often mean travelling longer distances to Glasgow, East Kilbride etc for work.

As you can see, i dnt tlk lyk diz n all tht ye? I actually know how to punctuate my sentences unlike most of the people in this area it has to be said. Like I aforementioned, I’m eager and determined to work and provide for myself. I’m not a laze around who expects to be on benefits for the rest of my days, I want to do something with my life. I even studied Aviation/Aeronautics to become a pilot.

Your sarcasm doesn’t work with me Wheel Nut, I find it rather childish and pathetic

I think it is great he managed to get funding for his hgv course but i want to know also how he was able to get funding after only 2 weeks on the dole? he struck lucky there. Normaly you have to be on the dole 6 - 12 months before they decide to help you in anyway.

Years ago now when i was out of work, a company working with jobcentre called “working links” helped me. I had had an interview and was offered job, it was hard for me to get there on time and without a car because it was shift work, they lent me one of there car’s, it was insured, taxed and first few weeks of fuel was provided by them for me to get to work, it was a great idea and helped me massively and allowed me to get myself back into work, save up and buy my own car, they loaned me there car for 3 - 4 months.

Just because some can get funding and others cant no need to give them a hard time about it, i say good on him, it will get him back into work and help him alot.

Second time round for me when i was out of work i could not get funding at all for my LGV licences, i managed to get a job delivering takaway’s, and anyone knows who has done this it takes alot out of your car and alot of money seems to be spent repairing it, but i was offered to work 7 day’s a week, saving money as i went and after a year or so saved up enough money for me to fund my LGV courses (i put on abit of weight too  as anyone knows doing that job you get free meal every night off the boss…mmm)

All in all it just matters in what area you live, what partnerships are working with the jobcentre in those areas at the time as to whether you can get funding or not, some are lucky (i.e sam) some are not, just a toss of a coin.

But goodluck to you Sam, take advantage of it, and if it gets you back into work it will have been a great help and a godsend to you as i think you will agree.

showing your age their malc

and take heed of the advice about DD, couldnt meet or talk to a nicer man who will help anyone.

I really don’t mind taking advice from anyone but I don’t like being looked down the nose at because I’m on benefits or I’m having things paid for me. It could be worse…
