LGV + Other Skills?

I know about ADR and HIAB but was wondering what else there is? I’m not talking aobut management side like operator cpc but something practical. Is there anything that is in demand and pays better? Also does any HIAB course cover everything you need for any lorry mounted crane job or do you have to take various courses to get “the full monty”. Thanks.

Hold your horses!!! - You need to walk before you can run!

Basically there are jobs that pay better, but not compared to other jobs like being a vet. And you are not going to get into those better specialist jobs until you have earn’t your stripes, and even then it’s not guaranteed…

Just planning ahead  and looking at ways to satisfying 35 hours CPC. I’m pretty sure i won’t be doing C+E. Not just because of the extra cost. Having seen the videos on youtube it has put me off. Looks hard even for experienced drivers. Plus don’t fancy tramping. Rather go to work do the job and go home. So as i will be limited to career as rigid driver if i were to work full time want to make sure i give myself best chance of standing out. I know money is not everything. Job satisfaction far more important (especially for me) to hold the job down. Plus want to get myself motivated as well by planning what i intend to do.

Still crawling at the moment.

You can have all the extra skills you want tbh but an employer will look at how long you have been driving and say come back with more experience.
Get a rigid job try a few on agency then decide what extra you want to do as you go along.

As for not wanting to do class 1 you done the hard bit by doing your class 2 get on the bendy ones much more fun.

Ask eagerbeaver about class 1 he tells us he knows everything lol :grimacing:

Haha, thanks for that intro Trunker! I’m trying to learn most things, but have only learnt some things thus far.

What I have learned, is that class 1 is not as daunting as it may seem at first.

The thought of driving class 1 is harder than actually driving them, once you have told yourself you can your half way there.

See more crumpet in an artic anyway lol

You can sit the advanced yard Rs licker diploma but I think you must become a “Drivers rep” first.

Also you could try going for your Cab like a big girl’s bedroom maker level 5, a few on here have that one.

I’m joking ■■■■■■■ calm down

And they say the blessing on the stupid is that: Ignorance is bliss!

If you look really hard, that’s actually a backhanded compliment. So how ya feel about that? :open_mouth:

Time for another beer! :grimacing:

Haha. I feel blessed Evil.

Thanks for comments. Really looking at jobs other than general haulage. I gather that c+e is going to be pretty much haulage only. Probably right with experience it might be fine. Do you think some people no matter how much training they get would never get to grips with it and never pass?

Sober now!

And what worries me, is that I’m NOT at all daunted by the thought of class 1 or jumping in an Artic.
So what does that say about me Beaver? :open_mouth:

I was like a kid in a sweetshop when I got in the cab of one a few weeks back, and wouldn’t have thought twice about taking her out on the road…
So maybe I’m more retarded than i thought!

HIAB licence’s are worthless. You could get a job at David Bratt’s with it for £8 p/h. Can’t think of a reason why anyone would want to.

Probably same with all driving jobs. Some pay well others s***. Something about HIAB appeals to me. What do you do V40LLY?

It says to me Evil, that class 1 is where you are destined mate. Not everybody is as confident as you and I pal.

Some folk are a little intimidated by the size. My missus was the same at first, but she soon adapted.

Methinks you are confusing the inanimate with the animate…

Haha…the lady may have a point.

One handy license I hold is my IPAF, shouldn’t think that many people in my town have one of them (well not class one driver)

Don’t go asking that plank what he does… It’s that brilliant he can’t tell no one :sunglasses:

Maybe think about MOFFETT ■■

I hope so, and I never thought twice when I was younger working on construction sites, of jumping in/on anything i could.
Or rather not until I almost tore a 4 story scaffold down with a telescopic forklift!

And the second part of your statement is out of bounds!!! :grimacing:
