If they are gonna pay then you should have to work at any job for a year at least then, they should look at paying for the license, cause you’ve shown at least show willingness to work.
Instead, you have to be on the dole for more than 6 months or some bollox. So basically they reward people who sit around on their arses. “Well done for not working for a year, have an HGV license”. Instead of rewarding young lads or lasses who scrimp and save for ages to get their licenses.
Loadsa these muppets get free fork lift training, but only take it so they can stay on the dole!
If labour get back in again, we’ll see a lot more of this cr*p as well.
Seems some people are troubled by a few new kids on the block. What’s up guys, scared of the competition; frightened that some of these new drivers might be better qualified idle buggers than you are?
As has been said it’s nothing new. When the pits shut they gave almost every miner an HGV licence; ditto any ex-serviceman.
My other half got her PSV licence through a government scheme, funded by the Welsh development agency. She couldn’t go back to her old job as a kitchen assistant because of a back injury; so when she eventually got called in to an interview by the DWP I suggested that she ask about getting some funding to help her get through her PSV, as she’d done a lot of 3.5 tonne van driving, is a pretty good driver if I say so meself, and bus driving offered an opportunity for her to get a job which she could manage.
Wifey was as surprised as I was when the chap who did the interview said “yes” without any hesitation; they put her on a training course and IIRC the only thing she had to pay for was her digi-card; they shelled out for the medical, test and training. She passed at the second attempt; went straight into a full-time job with a local company and is still there four years later. The tax she’s paid on her earnings over the past four years has more than repaid the outlay from the grant. I daresay there are a lot more like her who’ve benefited; did all the haters on this thread get their HGV licences for Christmas then or were they born with them?
pleased 4 ya but sounds like your wife was a productive member of society . most objectors like me are on about people that sit around bleeting theres no work they should take any job on offer which alot of people do rather than sit on there ■■■ waiting 4 the next goverment handout but geuss the average joe like me wont change anything probably why i spent most of last 9yrs paying my taxes in canada

When there are more jobs than people to do them then I agree with giving those on the dole nothing
We could get to that point in a few years if we closed the borders now
The political parties backing the bosses would not like it because their paymasters like to have the power - if more jobs than people then the workers have the power !
To get LGV funding from the DWP you must have the firm offer of a job in writing in my area so I suspect that is the same across the UK
What does the dole pay £90 every 2 weeks? Council tax, rent paid aswell. They pay 2.5k, guy gets a job at 25k a year so 2.5k in tax first year. Looks like good business for the taxpayer if you ask me.
Maybe you could make them pay back a tenner a week when in employment over a certain threshold?

■■■■■■■■ no jobs. Take their dole away and mark my words, toilets will start getting scrubbed.
Fruit will start getting picked. Envelopes will get sealed. Fast food will get cooked. Dog [zb] will be picked up. Drinks cans will be collected. Litter will get sorted. etc. etc. etc.
Amazing what will happen when free money stops raining down.
It really shows your ignorance, take away the money, people will turn to crime, they get a 1 year sentence it will cost the UK TAX payer £39,000 to keep a person in jail for a year, then they come out and then probation costs prior to that court costs police costs. whilst on it ban alcohol!! yeah people who drink pay taxes but how much does it cost the health service? how much does it cost when the drunks are fighting police etc? lets take housing benefits away child tax credits etc.
the guy gets 2.6k for the DWP, he works 1 year they get 3/4 times that back.
2.6k is nothing and IMO all the people who can get it good on them blame the government for it, you cannot blame people who are trying

What rubbish, where are all these jobs and who’s doing them now, where are the toilets I never see any public ones, do you want unemployed from say Newcastle going to Kent to pick fruit if so where do they live I think rents are higher down there.
I agree some people get to much state money but that’s the fault of the system and for every one that gets to much 1000’s get to little and you can’t expect them to do work that’s not there.
Eager B mate, you better start throwing all the ■■■■ at me then, and please bring it on I couldn’t give a flying one.
I got my Class 1 through the dole before a lot of you were born. I got my Class 3 paid for by a local guy with 4 wheelers, he wangled it to ‘lay me off’ so I could get my Class 1 paid for on the rock & roll, that was in 1979/80.
So there you have it chaps, I was a dole cheat…so ■■■■ on it!
‘What the hell is wrong with this country’, ‘free money raining down’, ‘reward people who sit on their arses’ and all the other hysterical, outraged (and more than likely ill-informed) garbage is funny. Some posters would find themselves more at home on the Daily Mail forum than Trucknet!
Eager, has the grumps because he had to pay for it, what he is leaving out from the original post is the fella worked for 20 year, paid all them taxes and all that NI, he had every right to get it for free, I think he should be cheeky ask for a class 1 saying no class 2 work in area, and then get a free ADR, do minimum wage, get £100s a week in tax credits and extra for DLA, then have the cheek to ask for more!!

Seeing is believing. It all happens. As you’ve mentioned the DM, you don’t believe it can happen, so you are the ill informed one.
well says it all really when u got people on here actually boasting to working people that they are a dole cheating lieing ba…ard no wonder the once gr8 uk is a 2nd class nation . just glad i dont live near said dole cheating f…ers
I was funded by the DWP for LGV training sat next to 15 other people that were desperate to get back into employment
No scroungers just people willing to work that appreciated the opportunity to become a driver.
Its no joke being out of work on £70 a week
Most of those people being funded would not find a job within 12 months anyway which would cost the taxpayer £3500 a year each
Eagerbeavers problem isn’t really that unemployed people get funded , he’s pee’d off because if he knew at the time he could have used the taxpayers money instead of his own to get LGV training.
He doesn’t give a crap about taxpayers money , his problem is he feels 2.5k out of pocket and a scumbag that has resentment for people less fortunate than himself.
sorry but any able person this day and age makes the decision to sit on 70 pound a week and your also not bringing into equasion there free rent and community charge/free perscriptions and all the other free bo…ox but seems theese days the dossers get all the help so geuss i be staying in canada where u soon learn that all in life is not what dole money u can ponce of working people

I have no idea what, if any, point you’re attempting to make. It’s just garbled, incoherent gibberish. On that note, let me guess: you plan to vote UKIP.
The Unemployed in WALES can get a grant from the Welsh assembly ,for free carpets ,washing machine, fridge, cooker, tumble dryer, etc etc from Euronics …the lazy bugger should get a bloody job Really boils my ■■■■ … Get it all paid for …
back in 2000 my instructor told me that the dole were not only paying for the class 2, but in fact making it a condition that if they did not do the course then their dole would be stopped.
he was getting folk who just plain did not want to be there. if they did pass the test they would have to work. not to mention the ones who tried but just weren’t cut out for it.
some were deliberately ballsing up on test so they could stay on the dole.
what makes it worse though was that he did 2 to 1 training, so people who were genuine and had paid out of their own pocket were having to train with folk who didnt want the job and were only there because they were forced to be.
Think what some of you have to bear in mind that the DWP is being run just like the NHS… to much like a post code lottery, whilst at some job centres the training is being offered and funded with out much issue ( expect where conditions attached ) yet at other parts of the country getting any money out the system is like getting blood out of a stone…
From what advice I was given they where only pay for LGV training if there’s a guaranteed job at the end and no one can guarantee that…I’m all for people getting back to work but funding should be nationwide without any issues and not just for the select few in certain areas
I find it highly unlikely that the dole would make it compulsory for a person to become an lgv driver , were not all suited or have the confidence to drive lorry’s.
