£1000 a week in the NE… that to me says max hours, weekends & dossing in laybys. (Call me cynical).

Seriously, you can get £1000 a week driving a parcel delivery van …
On self-employed basis…
You hire the van…
You start at 3-4am, finish between 6&7pm monday-saturday…
With a good accountant, and a cheap-to-run van, you might take home about £700pw of that.
So it’s 96 hours a week (no tacho in vans remember!) for £700pw. Not only is that near on minimum wage, but you get no sick pay, no holidays, and if you’re not pulling your finger out like a pyramid builder all the time - your takehome pay will drop, whereas your overheads will not.
£1000 a week would be good if it was PAYE and the Takehome pay. 
Winseer it wont be 700 pw it’ll be 5-600 once you take out tax and insurance and that’s only if you doing local deliveries.
It’s like most jobs advertised around here (Middlesbrough) the £1000 a week is for LTD co drivers the actually rate is about £9 an hour it’s for Stobarts out of teesport.
I run just 4 trucks, they leave the UK on a Sunday with groupage for Italy, we get paid half a can of diet coke and 2 bags of monster munch crisps for that trip which hardly covers the fuel no matter the truck/driver etc, then we load our own product back, I pay my drivers £150 a day all in,they give me an invoice for £900 for 6 days work, on top of that they have a decent truck.

I didn’t say I was, but I can assure you from what I have seen on forums and what the lads say the norm is around 450 a week, so my 900 in the bank per 6 shifts is ok ! When I drove abroad 20 years ago I was on 450, so not really alot gone up, I personally think some of these cowboys paying 400-500 a week and expect a driver to work all day and stay away from home all week are bang out of order.

I don’t think anyone would be daft enough to work 96 hours for 5-600, so I must assume they are only doing it monday-friday (80 hours) instead.?
I can’t say that all parcel delivery firms are equal in that regard. I dunno anything about how Hermes, UK Mail, and Tuffnels behave on this for example.

Who did you have to share your coke with? - I assume he didn’t want any monster munch, thus giving you both packets.
