I have just been for an assessment… was told it couldnt go ahead because i dont have a letter of attestation filled in as i havent worked for the last 28 days. The agency sent me a blank form that apparently they were supposed to fill in saying i hadnt done any in scope driving work . for x amount of time. Well if i had done any inscope work it would be on my bloody card. I havent had to have it for any assesment i have done previously
is this right all the assessor said was it was an insurance thing.
It’s certainly not an insurance thing. The assessor is merely saying that as it’s an easy thing to say. What it is undoubtedly is a company thing though.
thats the thing… i get that its their toys so they get to set the rules… but i have a record of my driving activities. Unless they are insinuating that i have been driving illegally by not inserting my card. However, even then surely they have done their best to make sure i am complaint whilst driving their wagons by dipping my card.
When a company has a compliance department this is the sort of thing you see. It makes sense from their POV of course because they are seen to be doing something proactive thus justifying their existence.
Slightly off topic but the big lesson we SHOULD have taken from Covid is that middle management and huge swathes of office staff are in fact surplus to requirements.
my friend was in it during covid. the company he worked for acctualy forgot about him. he had to email in asking when he was going to come back. However few months later when he wanted to leave to become a teacher he was made to work his notice period.
Yeah it sounds just that…somebody justifying their (non) job…common practice today, usually manifesting it’'s self in driver aggravation and agitation for the sake of it.
The fact that your card shows you aint been driving afaik is the recognised criteria and should be sufficient for them.
It’s ‘‘innocent until proven guilty’’ not vice versa.
The guy probably didn’t like look of you lol.or someone who did a course once then thinks they know everything when in fact they know nothing.
As for compliance manager . Think we got one about 6 months ago never had one before.
Since then he’s been busy spending money like anything.
Putting up signs all over the place in warehouse and in the yard. Some of which are pointless not needed.
Can’t reverse without a yardman.
Built a shed and got sacks of salt ready for winter
Put up a suggestion box.
Almost every week there’s
another memo sign here say your have read and understood it etc
All pointless stuff .
Yet more important stuff thing need for job or lack of decent trolleys cages without square wheels etc.
Don’t care rather put up a sign saying 5 mph in yard
Yep…case in point.
Justifying his existence and non job, which you can sure as hell bet far exceeds the wage for a driver.
It’s like everything else in this job today mate…All done for show with zero substance or advantage.
At my old place they put up daily name and shame lists to display the Telematic scoring for the best performing drivers who saved fuel and wear and tear on the fleet.
At every ADR and DCPC course, why is it there was always the driver that’s got the tee shirt and been there and done that to make the day 3 times longer than what it should be as he talks so much?
Out comes the video from 40 years ago of the nurse that was off duty and assisted at a chemical tanker crash but melted away in the sulphuric acid and nothing of her was left on the road.
Funny but something we blogged about yesterday about meeting record keeping requirements, It not an insurance thing but a legal requirement to produce 28 days worth of proper and accurate records at the side of the road. The DVSA increased this requirement back in 2020 and didnt tell anyone what they expected, until it was noticed in 2022, if you read this post and click on the part that mentions letter of attestation there is an official template that you can use to show you did no in scope driving for the previous 28 days https://www.transcomnationaltraining.co.uk/blog/manual-entries-on-a-digital-tachograph-legal-requirements-and-best-practices-for-uk-drivers/
yes… but at that stage the letter means nothing. i could of been working that last 90 hours in an office or some other non driving role. but i am ok because i have a letter saying i havent driven.
i started driving 2019 and in all the agency assessments i have had i have never been asked for a letter. They just ask when did you last drive… i tell them x… they download the card and see the record. job jobbed.
My upcoming assessment for a new job just states they want me to do a manual entry as havent driven for a while due to an injury. They dont see it as an issue. Someone displaying commen sense by chance!!
If your assessment was to include driving, then obviously you MUST be able to show your prev 28 days driving. It’s your record, not the agency.
If you went either not knowing the 28 day rules or chose not to go prepared, it would reflect your basic drivers hours knowledge. That could be enough reason for them to stop the assessment.
Going on a drive assessment without the records put you at risk of fines and PG9 and think what it means for the company to knowingly allow you to do so!!,!
