Legality of in cab cameras

Harry Monk:

PaddyTheLorryDriver:
My wife works on her own in a place with CCTV everywhere in every room except the toilets.

Why no CCTV in the toilets? If she’s doing nothing wrong, she’s got nothing to worry about. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

I think you’re wasting your time Harry with this guy, he’s beyond help,.he’s a modern manager’s ■■■■■■■■■.
Not a pop btw…, purely an observation based on his opinions. :bulb:

If somebody can not see the difference between a camera in a pub, or a town centre or whatever, with a constant one to one , …but not only that can see nothing wrong with them to the point of agreeing with them, the cause is lost.
As for buses…couldn’t give a flying one, I don’t drive them.

PaddyTheLorryDriver:
What exactly is everyone worried about?

The incessant creeping of a full blown digital gulag. Most workplaces are beginning to feel like open prisons. It’s not good for the soul. I worry about being sacked for taking a sip of water now that the recession has arrived, and companies will soon need to cull a few drivers here and there. Why bother with redundancies and redundancy pay when they can just browse through the footage?

As far as saying it’s all fine and not sinister at all, I’m not looking as far as the end of my own bonnet, I’m looking a mile up the road, and I don’t like what I see.

Not a managers ■■■■■■■■■, I’ve just worked in places surrounded by CCTV so watched everywhere. You don’t get sacked for having a swig of water whilst driving, I’d eat bananas and bars of chocolate whilst driving with I think it was 4-5 different camera angles on me. They’re only viewed if there’s an incident or a complaint. They’re not a spying tool
Your more likely to be spied on by a security guard with control over cameras than a transport manager.
I agree with them if it stops all the ■■■■■■■■■ using their phones whilst driving a lorry yes. I’m quite shocked at how many I’m now seeing. Probably just because I’m at a better viewing level now. And if they kill someone I’m sure the victims relatives would like to know why with concrete evidence. This is the world we now live in.

Makes me laugh when people say that the video footage will only be viewed if there is an incident…the same people probably still believe in Father Christmas and the Tooth Fairy. As has been mentioned if a firm wants to get rid of someone…bingo.

And there we have it…I rest my case .
Totally and utterly sold. :bulb:

A classic and perfect illustration and example of just how ‘‘they’’ want us to be,.which in fact is quite depressing tbh.

It’s all there, the ‘management speak’ crap that they attempt to brainwash us with (and evidently succeed in sometimes) …the cliches, the soundbites,.the positive spin on a totally negative (for us) situation,.garnished with the repetition and regurgitation of management complete bull ■■■■ and ■■■■■■■■… :unamused:

I bet our Grandfathers who stood up for themselves against exploitation and unfairness (and won btw ) are turning in their respective graves.

Gawd help us. :unamused:
The words ‘Hell’ and ‘Handcart’ spring to mind when I read that post.

Slightly off topic, but I can speak from experience, the snoopers charter that firms appear to have in their favour doesn’t just apply to driver facing cameras. Not sure about forward facing cameras that are fitted by the manufacturer, but the ones that are attached to the windscreen have built in microphones and if not turned off will record every word spoken during your shift. Probably most people know this but worth mentioning.

So paranoid, the worlds not out to trap and get rid of you. Mole hills and mountains. Right I’m off to check under my pillow, should be £10 there if I calculated inflation correctly :sunglasses:

If you find that tenner,.could you loan me it?
I fancy a pair of those rose coloured glasses that you get from that on line store…‘World of Naivety’

Tell me to mind my own ■■■■ business Paddy mate…
Just curious to know how old you are and how long you have been in this game.
As I said,.I’m just curious rather than actually interested btw.

Ha ha, 52, used to drive vans delivering to shops from 2002, 7.5t coca cola lorry from 04, then it went to vans, then bus driving for 3 years with more driver facing cameras you can shake the poop stick at and now class 1 for 2 months. But having driven surrounded by them cameras they actually worked in my favour many times. Be it accusations from bystanders or road users to passengers.
Never were they used for spying. The company was really hot on privacy law and data protection.
They caught the one driver repeatedly using her phone whilst driving and for that I’m sure even yourself would be thankful if there use.

We could have done with cameras on the coke lorries given we carried thousands in the safe and were robbed on multiple occasions. One driver twice.

52 eh?.., you surprise me, usually by that age most drivers eventually see things for what they really are, but there ya go.
So no tramping then.
A tramper’s truck is his home,.granted not his own, but owned by a company.
So going by your principles, if you lived in your home owned by somebody else, ie rented, you would have no qualms with the landlord having cameras installed,.so he can keep an eye on you.
But I suppose if you’re doing nothing wrong etc etc,.and as you’ve said they aint there to spy on you.

So what about the firm’s that aren’t so hot on privacy law and data protection? These things are all open to abuse, you only have to search on Google and scratch your head to think where all the video clips come from.

What exactly is everyone worried about?

Being treated as though I was a citizen of East Germany or the USSR in the 1950s.

Does that mean you get upset when you walk into the supermarket/petrol station/down the local high street?

My view is it’s gonna happen, bit by bit, and dribs and drabs of drivers changing jobs because of it won’t stop anything. I’m neither for or against them, honestly haven’t put all that much thought into topic but I do find the idea that people think someone is watching them every minute as hilarious as I find ‘if you’ve nothing to hide’ a bit scary.

Yes,and there is worse ti come. You will end up having a microchip embedded in your hand before you can drive a truck

Speaking as somebody who is totally against all this type of crap (yeh I know…no ■■■■ ) I don’t think for one second these 'constant surveillance ‘’ type cameras, despite of their name, are manned 24/7 by some non job ■■■■■■ in an office, and I don’t care whether they look.at you 24 hours or 24 seconds, it’s the fact that ‘‘they can’’ that gets right up my arse personally.

Why is there an actual NEED for them other than trying to catch you out on something ,or to implicate you?

The incident/accident only type (which are bad enough) covers the avenues of blame or exoneration in an accident scenario, .we also have trackers,.and we have phones, to check where we are and what we are doing,…so as I say no need other than to have a go at a driver,.despite what they try and make you believe,.that have been listed on here by those that do. :unamused:

Yes but your way they only ever harm one person- you, with stress. Why worry about something you can’t change? If a company I loved working for wanted to fit them would I leave? No, probably not. But then there’s the argument that that could be because the sort of companies I love working for wouldn’t fit them. Who knows. I’ve never actually worked for a company with forward facing ones fitted as company policy even.

Ok, but far he it for me to go down the old …‘‘If only drivers stuck together’’ route, but if they did they would not be tolerated nor fitted at all, in which case things WOULD change, in the sense of all this type of crap they do,.would never get off the ground.

I get the stress bit, but it does not and should not stop you feeling aggrieved and treated unfairly without some kind of resistance, ,.otherwise where does it stop what they do.

Absolutely if only drivers stuck together, we could do great things. But they never have and are showing no signs that they ever will.

My point is it’s just pointless tho as the world will go in the direction the people who have ability to shape it want, whatever we want or do

Sadly you are maybe right, but it’s just totally against my nature personally to just roll over and bend over to all this type of crap, whether it be futile or not,.at least it shows some kind of self pride if nothing else.

It’s a pity there were not a lot of others in the same frame of mind in this job,.then maybe it would stop them, from on the whole, looking upon us and treating us somewhere between school boys and ■■■■ on their shoes.
