Leccy trucks coming thick & fast

anyone with any sense gives these things a wide birth. my neighbor has one of these ev monstrosities. they charge it outside their garage when its there i park out on the street well away from it

 Yer Luddites, Most BEVs these days are LFP & way more safe than NMC battery packs. Most of those early manufacturing faults have been corrected. There’s a big change afoot by the end of the year, probably not your thing, but Sodium ion batteries will be in mass production by the Chinese behemoth battery maker CATL.

The prices of battery traction packs will come down in price drastically & they will be virtually impossible to catch fire.

The price of NMC batteries is around $100/kg, LFP is around $50-$60/kg, Sodium ion batteries will be around $19/kg  They will be more robust & can charge-discharge way more times than the ternary battery packs.

All the big battery manufacturers in South Korea, Samsung, LG, SK etc are going to be in the brown stuff as their whole game is built around producing lithium packs.

Yep ok.
But each to his own, I’ll stick with the proven formula and not fall (nor gaf) for the environmetal agenda b/s.

What is the shelf life of these things?..we don’t know, they aint been out long enough.
If you wanted you could keep the same 'proper car for 20 years, can you envisage that with an electric one?
(Genuine question btw, I don’t know.)

How long have you had yours for instance?..is it capable of around 200000miles?

Will depreciation costs be phenomenal?

If electric vehicles had been out as long as conventional ones, and the conventionals were the new kids on the block, the selling points would be..
No more sat at chargers for hours , but instant fill ups and go,
Extremely reliable.
Low depreciation,
Capable durability for basically as long as you want.

These things may well be the new sliced bread, but in terms of time they aint been proven, and I tend to hear more negativity generally than positive reports.

So I’ll stick with my dirty polluting diesel motors for now…as a ‘luddite’.

Btw despite the official blurb I would not still be sleeping in one at any price.

I’m not sure of the life span of the upcoming sodium ion packs, they’ve just given out the price per kg & energy density which is slightly less than the ternary packs but CATL have just released their new Shenxing Pro battery pack at the recent Munich car show, that will charge in 10 minutes & features a record-breaking 12-year, 1,000,000 km lifespan. These new battery traction packs will outlive the life of the car.

I’ve had two BEVs over the last 7 years & this MG ZS is warranted for 7 years or, 100000 miles whichever comes first. Depreciation is always going to be a thing with them as big oil & the MSM has done everything they can to throw a spanner in the works to EV adoption, the public seem to be believe a lot of that FUD, the battery tech is changing from one month to the next.

They’re not everyones cup of tea & certainly aren’t a one size fits all type of thing, I’m lucky in that I have a driveway & a double garage to charge off street so it was a no brainer for me to get one, I can’t speak for anyone else, I charge it up for pennies on a cheap overnight EV tariff or the Sunday half price electricity 5 hour window.

Think rob will be going on days when he sees these pics , the daf went up in flames & took the culina lorry out , good job the 2 drivers were sat in the tesco waiting room & not asleep on there bunk

Yes rob was tesco livingstone , culina driver ( stobart ) lost everything, daf just went up in flames , we were told under no circumstances were we to stay in the cab when tipping at tesco

but they were stumped when asked what trampers were to do when on daily rest

Well this is a warning to trampers eh?
Anybody who is asked to tramp in one of these abortions (and who has a backbone) just flatly refuse…end of.

Ok arguably it aint a common occurence (apparentlly) but the warnings have always been there since these things came out, so in my view it should be taken as a warning…it could save yer life !
And even if the risk is small, …as a tramper do ya want to take it?
Yeah you could get killed on any trip on any type of truck, but this just increases that possibility…so why chance it?

Not a chance in hell from me.

Those battery packs DAF uses are made by Amplify cell technologies, a company formed by Cummins & Daimler truck NA. It’ll be interesting to see the reports of the cause.

Just been told it was a diesel truck…I was wrong!
Anybody want a slice of me humble pie? :joy::joy:

Well as far as I know anyhoo…time will tell.

The front view of the electric DAF look similar to the diesel, but the new style headlights are different on the electric model.

Why is it that all electric vehicles have a built in ugliness about them-apparently MB are going to start fitting grills on their EV’s 'cos the customers have been complaining about the looks. they should see the new MB truck!

You mean this have seen a few mostly on the M6 /m5
Not exactly good looking.

Germans have a nerve saying that after they inflicted that buck-toothed grill monstrosity on the world!

Prob more power in the washing machine

Some stage coach depots are trialing a scheme that will allow compmaya to charge there trucks up in there garages. Obviously for a charge

Most already have charging points so kinda makes sense.
But article I read does say only during quiet periods ie when all buses are out on the road.

I don’t use the m1 much but a couple of times recently I have seen an electric bus going south with trade plates on, one I’m sure was painted up for Bristol, so did wonder if from Notts way it had range enough to make it in one hit or had to find suitable charging options.on route.
