Leccy trucks coming thick & fast

Why?

Asking for @star_down_under

I suppose the 40C sun beating down on a truck’s tin roof would feel like an oven, He’s probably not as hardened to it like an Aussie.

We had night coolers fitted to the roof hatches. Not as powerful as full aircon, but use a lot less battery overnight apparently.
For myself I never used them.

I did complain about the night heater not workimg in May though.

I set the climate control to 23~25⁰C in everything I drive.

When working in Southern Europ I rarely used any air-con at all. I do seem to be more heat tolerant and less cold tolerant than some others I know.
Also I reckon you feel the heat more if getting out to pump a pallet truck in the trailer, if the cab was too cool. After doing work I might switch on the air con for a bit, but not too much.

Better to try to acclimitise yourself to the world temp rather than fight it too much, but within limits. And related to that: if having a BBQ and it gets chilly in the evening? Don’t light up a patio heater and try to warm up the whole of the world because you are too lazy to put a jumper on.

I wondered two myself if they called you 3 coats before I had read down that far!

Sensible sentiment though, partly because of having the motorbike, I have a couple of heated waistcoats and a pair of heated gloves that come in handy in winter.

I very rarely used A/C in a lorry, even in North Africa and the Middle East. I’d use it to cool the cab down before setting off and after that I’d kill it and wind the window down. I use it more in my car these days but in general I don’t like A/C, especially indoors. Cafes and restaurants in particular. Ugh!

The upside of AC is de-misting, if I come back in the cab after doing curtains in the rain everything fogs up quickly.

My car being base spec no extras I have to sort it by hand!

A bit like my body then!

Not for much longer, JLR will cease production of its own models next year over there due to enormous losses.

A new range of Chinese focused models will be launched under the Freelander brand, built on a new platform by their Joint venture with Chinese state owned partner Chery.

Edit: forgot the link. Jaguar Land Rover Stops Making Its Own Cars In China To Embrace Chinese Rebrands | Carscoops

He said in the video that other drivers had their diesel trucks running for much of the weekend with A/C running, Ouch!.

Agree with that. Walking into a building and needing to put a coat on is madness.

We’re having more charging points put in within next month , electric trucks ( merc actress e 600 I I believe we have at present ) are going further & further , no idea of range on them , but there ugly things

We’ve got some of these , I’m suprised it’s merc they’ve gone for as we were told the new Lorrie’s in 2026 would be Renault ( thank god I’ll be retired .

Maybe it’s a case Renault don’t do a electric truck , or maybe there not much good

Not as ugly as the new gen Scania… they look like a ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  lego truck.

I see they’ve extended the government grant for commercial electric vehicles until 2027.

ā€œThe scheme currently offers discounts of up to Ā£2,500 for small vans, Ā£5,000 for large vans, Ā£16,000 for small trucks, and Ā£25,000 for large trucks. It is not yet clear what the grant levels will be for the 2026-2027 financial year.ā€

Another 2 merc e,s arrived so upto 4 , I can’t remember what they originally said but I believe it was a lot more than 4

If this article is right , goverment subsidy or not I can’t see many companies paying the extra for a electric truck , though I’d guess most are leased

One of the merc e,s was at the same collection point I was , so assuming he’s left the depot & gone straight to the collection point that’s a 80 mile trip ( 160 mile r/trip ) , again assuming it’s not going anywhere else

We had some daf cf electric trucks originally & they were just local shunts

I’ve noticed they’ve all got alloy wheels , not of our other trucks have , I’m assuming it’s weight , wonder how heavy the battery pack is on these .

Electric trucker gave the weight of the e-actross 600 battery pack in one of his vids, but I’ve forgotten what the exact weight was.

Mercedes, have been on a push to sell more electric trucks because they’re behind with the 2025 15% CO2 emissions reduction along with Iveco. The rest of the European truck manufacturers will meet the emission limits.
