Leccy trucks coming thick & fast

i would guess christmas card list and first name basis at least

never mind im just slow on the uptake this morning

Yep exactly my point.
Very handy for that ā€˜EV spontaneous combustion moment’ on the M6.:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:…a priority callout.

Anyone else figured that one of the reasons why cars seem to move off from lights slower than 2 legged tortoise on Midazolam, is because they are using stop start, not paying attention so when the green light comes, they all sequentially have to restart before beginning to move.

What should we expect from the prince of oil, trump is so keen for the support and money from big oil, he’s gonna cut anything perceived to be anti oil

On a slightly different note to avoid a second post. I came across a .gov document about electric buses. It said that predicted break even time on electric buses was around 12 years while admitting that the economic lifespan for buses was 15 to 20 years. i.e bus companies will have to fork out big money for an asset that costs them more than it makes them, for a long time only to have to scrap it soon after it starts to make a profit.

.gov clearly need to somehow make the cost of large vehicles propelled by battery electric, far cheaper to the bus and haulage companies. Else all the legalisation is going to do, is make transportation more expensive, bus routes decimated leading to lower economic activity if commuters can’t afford to switch themselves to BEV cars.

Then there is the on going and worsening issue of mystery substation fires.
Talking to an expert (no not Karen, a real expert) Part of the problem is drugs. When naughty people bypass the meter to grow their soothing greenery in the loft, they have started to bypass or exchange the main fuse too. A normal fuse is between 60 amp and 100 amp for each house. If the ā€œgreen houseā€ is also been lived in, people cooking brownies… and having a shower and playing X box or whatever young men do nowadays when not forking and watering the plants, then to have on top of that the high heating and lighting load from the propagation equipment, it would blow a 100 amp fuse in no time.

Add in rapid chargers, and people who have had high power showers fitted, the modern network faces high demand. And it’s these extra high loads from just one or two houses in a street, that create a large imbalance in the system, because normally the supply to a street is three phase and shared out to each house in sequence to balance the total load on each phase. It’s the imbalance that is messing up the substations more than the total load. So Karen from offa facebook says anyway

I had to say Karen to protect the names of the innocent. It’s actually Charlotte and Sarah.

I think the only electric tractor unit I’ve seen out and about so far was an Amazon unit.

I thought most of their trunk drivers kip in the cab during the day, dunno if they would let them stay on site if it’s got to charge for ages.

What! And have Amazon allow their (subbie) drivers to use toilets showers etc on site rather than tell them to bugger off and kip on the verge?

An Amazon distribution centre is located nearby, with locals saying the lay-by hogging has become a problem since it was built just before the pandemic.

For its part, Amazon says its provides ā€œextensive facilities for HGV driversā€ which include free hot drinks, toilets, access to food and even a pool table at the site in question.

The company also says it has ā€œvery high standards for the service providers we work with and will investigate any issues.ā€

We need decent well equipped truck stops across the country. And the bosses to pay for them, not us. What other job does a worker have to sleep by a random roadside 4 nights a week? Other than a non tacho van driver of course.

Where has our electric Jesus disappeared to? Hopefully he plugged his car in with wet hands!

Anyway I digress; a mate of mine has a van fleet and a huge chunk of his work is F1 based, primarily for Red Bull. He was telling me that the week before last he was piloting his van towards Zandvoort for the Dutch GP en route to Sevington Kent to customs clear.

He was about 10 minutes away from there when he passed a Mercedes F1 race truck that was curiously being pulled by a plain white unit. At this point it’s worth pointing out that the F1 paddock is a small place and everyone chats to and knows everyone else regardless of which team they are.

Once in Sevington he spoke to the Merc driver and questioned the plain unit. The Merc drivers reply was along the lines of ā€œ it’s one of them bloody electric Actros’s, Mercedes got a lot of stick by turning up at Silverstone with 10 of them, with people commenting that it was only 8 miles from Brackley (the Merc team HQ) and they’d not be able to do a European roundā€. He also asked my mate ā€œdid you not see the camera car in front? The one filled with PR bods doing a promo for Mercedesā€.

He then told my mate that when he left Brackley fully charged he had a 220 miles range which meant that once off the train he’d have to head south to charge the truck before turning north for Holland. Now here’s the kicker; behind that electric monstrosity was a diesel unit that once Holland was finished would pick the trailer up and go directly to Monza Italy for the next race as the electric one had no chance of of getting there within the time frame!

Future my arse!

either that or his car caught light as he was writing a post about how its all a conspiracy theory

I watched an episode of Bangers & Cash today.
They sold by auction a fully restored ā€˜F’ plate 1968, not a Morris Minor 1000 van, but an ā€˜Austin’ Minor 1000 van…same thing, different badge.

Some absolute Philistine came up with the idea of replacing the 1000 cc engine, with an electric unit out of a 2019 Nissan write off.

It’s like covering Westminster Abbey with stone cladding…sacrilege and severe bad taste.

Ha! Just as I’m having a cold cider up pops the f***ing hole in the wall gang, Still full of whining ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  I see. No not dead. The MG BEV is still running like a dream & still cost pennies to run. I’m just having a break from forums, nice to see I was missed.

The team driving those new Merc e-Actros 600s sound like a bunch o whingin’ Reform hamshankers, Funny how Electric Trucker went from Germany through France doing a drop in Spain en route to Gibraltar & back in 49C heat with no problems in one the other week.

You wouldn’t like one o my other favourite YT channels then, Electric classic cars who convert fossil fool ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  into proper vehicles :+1: , E-type jags, Jensen interceptors, Ferrari, Porsche & everything in between running mostly Tesla batteries & electric motors.

They’ve had an electric Actros a little further than that, just to proove you can.

Yeah big Bon Jovi fan, I bought an electric 12 string long ago for Beatles, Hollies & their Wanted dead or alive song.

I’m noodling on bass guitar, more than 6-string guitar at the moment, I’ve had the BeeGees Stayin alive bass line in my head for days after hearing the song so had to learn it.

I sold my Jazzmaster guitar a while ago to get money towards a gaming PC, TrainSim TSW6 is all I play on it.

I really miss that guitar for the crystal clear jangle only a jazzmaster can deliver, so I’ve been hankerin’ over a Harley Benton jazzmaster style guitar from the big Thomann online music site in Germany, it’s their in-house brand & great quality for the price, I own a few of their Harley Benton models & had zero problems with them.

I’m looking at this one in Sea Green, cheap as chips & sounds great.

Don’t know much about guitars but you look like you have a good selection there mate…

Think I’ve told ya before I always regret not learning, I could see myself up there doing my Joe Perry impression on stage.

We should start a thread on favourite guitar pieces…or is it ā€˜riffs’?
Sultans of Swing, Brick in the wall, and Hotel California to name 3 of mine.

You mention JBJ’s Dead or Alive…that’s actually my ringtone.:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Just to keep on thread …not sure if JBJ or Richie Sambora drive an electric car though.
Maybe Roy Wood out of The Move does…didn t he sing ’ The Fire Brigade’?..very apt.:joy:

I watched a bit of the video, that Merc is an impressive piece of kit no doubt about that but its depending so much on the infrastructure to operate like that and I think that is miles off. According to Merc website it takes half hour to charge from 20 to 80%. Yet you can fill a diesel tank from 5 to 100% in 5 minutes and do 800 miles.

For big fleets with their own charging facilities and runs of under 250 miles to be on the safe side they would be OK I guess.

How much is one btw? Just curious.

GAS (guitar acquisition syndrome) is hard to stop. There’s always one more you need :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:. That 12 string intro to wanted dead or alive is a sublime piece of music.

Yeah, the infrastructure across Europe is not there quite yet & there’s too much having to drop your trailer to get on some chargers for my liking. He said Spain is one of the best countries for HGV charging as they have a lot of space over there. He did a trip to the UK (Liverpool) & said the infrastructure here is rubbish & way behind where it should be, no surprise there..

So tell us why China still gets ICE Jaguars while we can’t.

Part two of his return journey from Gibraltar, That e-Actross Merc is pretty efficient compared to his usual Iveco S-eWay & came out with some surprising stats regarding using the A/C continually in 35C-40C.

He was week-ended & had the A/C running continually & said it would have been cheaper to stay in a hotel than run the A/C in the Iveco
