the shambles of an outfit i work for operate this scheme…new one to me.drivers are leaving in droves, but i’ve yet to find out what it entails,as most of them don’t bother turning up for their final day! anyone here had one?
Yes, and I ended up staying. I was very productive and glad I went and glad I stayed
Known as an “Exit” interview i had one last year,it comes from the yuppie office type jobs. Basically i sat in the managers office while he read out questions from a crib sheet about why i wanted to leave and what i thought about the company in general.

i think our GM has a good idea what we all think of the company!
Had one for a non-driving job I left a few years ago and used it to drop a few low level managers in the ■■■■.

I was asked to describe the company in two words only , they were “Dysfunctional and shambolic” and he wrote them down on the questionaire for the purposes of HR and even he thought it was a waste of his time.
Loads of drivers leaving our place so the gaffers are panicking a bit.I had one of these a couple of weeks ago. Why are you leaving? What are we doing wrong? What should we change? Is there any chance that we can get you to stay?
I ended up staying for another two days before they screwed me over again so I walked.

Yes, and less hassle
Who got told “Jam tomorrow” in the form of “You’ll get a pay rise if everyone else goes - supply and demand bud…”
Only… “Everyone” didn’t leave. Those that did leave got replaced by regular agency (which IS a higher rate) and the handful that stayed got told to “be grateful you’ve still got a full time job”…
With the drop in fuel prices, and the sharp recovery in the transport sector - If drivers don’t know their value right now - they never will.
MMTM that after a few drivers left Ramage in newcastle, he still works there, robin the boss got one of the latest to hand in his notice to find out why they were leaving. His reply was “because you treat us like crap, you pay us crap & no amount of shiney trucks will change that”. Since then their pay has gone up, they get paid for breaks & they aren’t expected to do as much work when they get back to the yard. Result.
I’ve never had one personally but I think they’re a good idea. Any company owner worth his/her salt would want to know what the problem is when staff resign; I certainly would do if it were my company anyway. It’s surprising just how many bosses do not have any clue what goes on on the shop floor on a day-to-day basis and assume everyone is happy and things are running fine. Such interviews give you the chance to air your grievances with the job/fellow employees and quite often things will change within the company as a result of it.
They’ll need “please turn over” written on my exit sheet when I go on 31st October. My reasons will be "early starts/late finishes, family reasons, don’t want nights out, ongoing back problem, nosey/interfering colleagues, the fact I can get pretty much the same wage with no handball at my new job and finally, at my new job I can actually have a break when on break.
We had a transport meeting a couple of months ago when we were told pay and conditions were to be discussed at the upcoming management meeting. At the transport meeting on Wednesday, we found out as a result wages were deemed “fine for our job” and conditions were good. Thus, once I’ve left that’ll be 3 drivers gone in 2 months out of a team of 10.
I love it how these firms are now panicking about losing drivers when 2 year ago they had the pick of drivers.
At my last firm if you complained the gaffer would just show you a pile of application forms and say “if your not happy I’m sure these lads will be”,this firm has now lost quite a few drivers all of which were good men and told them the issues why they were leaving.
The same firm is now offering free lgv training as drivers don’t seem to want to work there.
This is something good. Stobarts seem to STILL have an attitude of there are plenty of drivers around, yes they train some up but what they fail to realise is that most of these people leave the industry completely when they realise the reality of it all !!! I’m sorry but all I am seeing are mass exoduses EVERYWHERE !!! These companies are so arrogant. Its a very strange period at the moment. Nothing is really moving just yet apart from drivers are finding ‘better’ places to work. The bigger companies are all going to have to put their money up and start looking after their drivers.

GOOD!! Cos when the bigger ones bang the money up, the smaller ones will have to follow suit!

Problem is the biggest moaning driver never leaves, but when a good driver goes to managment with a genuine grievance they just see him as another moaning driver, the bloke then leaves and the management don’t care…
I think a lot of firms should advertise the truth about the jobs a firm local to me was advertising 45 hours Monday to Friday but the reality is 4am start Monday 65+ hours a week plus every other Saturday and I know for a fact they don’t tell the bloke until he starts,so that leads to a high turn over of drivers.
Surely if companies don’t know or refuse to acknowledge that there is a problem they deserve to go short of decent employees - or even go out of business! Finger on the pulse and all that!
No sympathy for any firms that are too tight to pay a decent wage whilst pocketing ever larger profits.
It will bite them sooner or later. There aren’t enough agency drivers to cover them and even then these companies are getting a bad rep for messing drivers around even agencies guys won’t touch them.

Are you saying agency drivers have standards? Surely not!
