It will bite them sooner or later. There aren’t enough agency drivers to cover them and even then these companies are getting a bad rep for messing drivers around even agencies guys won’t touch them.
That’s whats happening in the place I’ve just left. Agency drivers are refusing to work there. They can’t replace drivers that have left because their bad reputation is becoming well known.

Are you saying agency drivers have standards? Surely not!
Everyone has standards, some are just lower than others
Only one I had filled 2 sides of A4 basically deconstructed their operation for them, probably filed in the shredder though. Company culture was/is firmly stuck in the 70’s living on past glories and won’t change until they have a wholesale clearout of their planners and lower management.
As for standards, one of the advantages of agency driving is I can choose who, when, where and how much I work for

Problem is the biggest moaning driver never leaves, but when a good driver goes to managment with a genuine grievance they just see him as another moaning driver, the bloke then leaves and the management don’t care…

I love it how these firms are now panicking about losing drivers when 2 year ago they had the pick of drivers.
At my last firm if you complained the gaffer would just show you a pile of application forms and say “if your not happy I’m sure these lads will be”,this firm has now lost quite a few drivers all of which were good men and told them the issues why they were leaving.
The same firm is now offering free lgv training as drivers don’t seem to want to work there.
I’ve seen that done… The “pile of applications” were on the office side of the hatch, in sight, but out of reach of any driver such as myself standing at the hatch.
Being the suspicious about everything dude I am, I sneaked a peak later that shift, when I got back from my run in the small hours to find an empty office, and “leave the keys on this desk” instruction…
On closer examination, the most recent application was dated 2002, before the depot I was standing in even existed!
Tip to TM’s.
If you want to learn how to bluff the workforce properly - put the evidence that contradicts official office claims in the safe!

I couldn’t agree more !!
They’ll “regret” though, when the new driver taking over smashes the fence down on their first night, 'cos they are literally just over 25, and got past the “2 years experience” with some bully about “worked for my uncle abroad”… The 10 points of endorsements merely got skipped over - as it does even now…
Two of McCulla’s TOP drivers left this week (One drives the 45th anniversary model MP4 Actros and another one of the MP4s that has light bars and he took it to shows)
That’s about TEN of his top men past 3months.
Even the “Taliban” are leaving due to working conditions
They are fed up with 2weeks away and not putting the money up as most NI tramping firms are paying £600+home per week now.
Getting back to yard at teatime on a Sat for your 66 long “weekend” is a joke
I think a perfect storm of work picking up a fair few older guys letting licence lapse and not a lot of young blood coming in over the last few years plus not as many romanian and bulgarians coming as did when the poles etc got right to work here has led to a bit of a shortage of drivers.
be intresting to see what happens next year as there are question marks about the economy.
This “Perfect Storm”, as it’s being called by industry bosses. And the fact they are saying there is a shortage of staff in the industry, is only because they want to maintain a glut of drivers, and thus get away with paying minimum wage for a skilled job.
I’d suggest that this alleged “Perfect Storm” is a re-balancing of the industry where drivers get paid more inline with what they are worth. The industry bosses can complain as much as they like, but if they want to go back to having more drivers than work and force wages back down, they can always put their hands in their pockets and train a load more drivers. (Not likely…)
It’s almost (or is) insulting that they are complaining and warning of shortages, when they want to pay shelf stackers money for a job that costs 3k to qualify in.
So in other words, ■■■■ em! Let them suffer the problems of not being able to conduct their business because they can’t get drivers. Go where the money is better & don’t spare an ounce of sympathy for them. They don’t give a stuff about you!!!
