Learner drivers

everyone that I speak to has a comment or two to say about learner drivers, personally I think they are a pain in the neck,i realise a lot are nervous but the instructor is supposed to teach them to make progress on the road,i saw one today on a 50mph road doing around 25mph and there was a huge queue behind the car, anyway that’s not the point of the post, just an idea but why don’t all these schools get together [and some are big like BSM so are worth a fair bit]and buy a huge chunk of land and have a mock town built with real roads, lights, junctions and so on it may cost a few million but i’m sure the big schools have the money, you can’t beat the real experience of driving around on the road but as I say there are far too many now getting in the way

The problem isn’t learners its crap instructors.

It’s another ‘no qualifications’ job that dimwits flock to. Dimwits who can’t drive in the first place yet feel they can teach people to drive.

The amount of ‘empty’ driving school cars I see getting driven like a chimp is at the wheel is startling.

As for the build a town idea, don’t be so ■■■■■■■ stupid.

A.

Always said it myself truckman.

Really boils my wee wee when it’s half 5 rush hour at the busiest most dangerous point in Birmingham and low and behold there’s a sodding learner.
I appreciate they need to learn but for Christ sake at least get them to a competent level before bringing them into hostile rush hour traffic.

The ones that really get my goat (and this will get me in trouble) are the burka wearers teaching burka wearers. Just wow.

There should be dedicated learning centres before learners even touch a road or at least some sort of pre competence test ~ there you go mrs may I just thought of another way for you to make money!!! Go me!!!

I did say it was just an idea so if you feel the need to insult then you are obviously a knob

What a stupid statement build a mock town at the cost of millions.

And how is that exactly ? sticking to the speed limit perhaps.

+1 shame Adonis feels the need to insult people though after giving his opinion, must be an instructor himself

No, quite the opposite.

Across 3 lanes without indicators, on the phone, speeding, no indication at roundabouts, on the phone, jumping lights, on the phone, pulling out on top of a fully freighted artic only to stop to turn right 60 yds down the road, wrong lanes at traffic lights.

A.

I suppose a slow moving learner driver can be frustrating, but then it’s only one of many frustrations on the road. I try and keep cool about all the annoyances when I’m driving these days, don’t always mange not to get annoyed, but when I do manage it, it make my day far more pleasant.

As for a dummy town maybe not practical, but I see places in France where learner drivers have a private road network to train on. Might be good way of getting used to the vehicle before taking to the public road network.

Dry your lady garden, it’s one of the stupidest things I’ve heard this week.

So a few schools club togther and build this mock town? Where is it? London? Lots of people there. Ah, but it’s not very central. Birmingham! Great idea. What about those wanting to learn from Glasgow? Torquay? Stornoway? :unamused:

BSM and other major driving schools are nationwide, all over the UK,or are you too stupid to realise that

I’m guessing that the op never learned to drive on the public highway then? :unamused: We all start somewhere, some folk are fortunate in that they were brought up on farms so learned in a 10 acre field, most of us had to do battle with traffic (myself in Reading town centre on Saturday afternoons in 1969) so did get under folks feet but hey, that’s life.

I actually agree with you regarding the battle with traffic, but you and I both know when we took our test the roads were nowhere near as busy as they are today, there are far too many learners on the road today and it seems I agree [begrudgingly] with Adonis about crap instructors, they are not teaching their pupils to make progress as they did with us in our days

The trouble is there is a lot of impatient drivers about these days and drivers who are always in a hurry, i’ll admit i’m a plodder at work and a plodder in my car (by that i mean i stick to all speed limits) and some folks can’t cope with that as i get overtaken in some stupid places.

Right on…same today…dual carriageway with bus lane with time restrictions…learner driver in outside lane im in inside bus lane out of time restriction…followed for 2 miles stoppin and startin due to lights…instructor unable to tell learner that they can use bus lane as it not in the time restriction…got to the end as it goes in to single lane and the car pricks giving me the eye as ive commited murder…no one lets me out but have to nudge out slowly…jyst infront off learner driver…usless instructors…keep left unless overtaking…simple

i’ll admit I am one of those impatient drivers but sensible enough not to overtake in stupid places,i just sit behind being annoyed but having to live with it knowing I can do nothing

It’s simply because most 17 yr olds want to learn to drive there’s no way around it is there,

True story time; A few years ago a mate of mine was in a queue of traffic waiting to through the traffic lights on the humped back bridge entering Chatsworth Estate from the Rowsley end. There was a lass learning to drive at the head of the queue and every time the light turned green she stalled it, before she got going they were on red again! This went on several times, there was a car behind her and a cop car with two bobbies in it behind that, my mate was behind the copper. Well after a few attempts this lad in the second car started sounding his horn, the copper shouted through his loudspeaker something like “Calm down, we all had to learn sometime” and then she started off and stalled it yet again! “■■■■ me, she’s done it again” came through the speaker, he had forgotten that it was still switched on!
