I read this evening on a Norwegian transport website (tungt.no/transportmagasinet) that a Latvian haulage company, Dinotrans, is set to employ Phillipino drivers for its 260 trucks. Ive often, during my 32 year career as a hgv1 driver, found reason to compare the haulage industry with the shipping industry, where, the captain will be British or Norwegian (random examples, but two old sea faring countries) and the crew will be made of "all comers". Seems like I wasn
t too far from the mark with my thoughts. Personally, I find this move as very worrying. Use Google translate if you dont speak Norwegian to read more on this in the link I gave. There
s a good forum there too!
That’s disgusting. Not only will they not pay their indigenous drivers a decent salary, They want to bring people in and pay them less than it costs to live. It’s [zb]ing Slavery.
Why is this legal in the EU?
Foreign workers should be employed to fill a void. They should not be brought in to be exploited like this.
It is unfair on them, It is unfair on the indigenous workers, and it’s unfair to their competition.
Filipinos in Norway…I can hear their teeth chattering already.
Lets see how many of 'em stick it
Ooops sorry Latvia, well that ain’t a whole lot better.
They’re coming from outside the EU so hows that going to work, residency permits and all that?
This image of a Dinotrans car is from 2011 when a Latvian driver tried to sneak aboard the ferry between Volda and Folkestad. The driver refused to pay. Tide sat hard against hard and the car had to be back. The image we have of Jens Marius Gundersen who witnessed it all. © Photo: Jens Marius Gundersen
Blimey, how can we compete. Filipino drivers who knock the ferries.
What difference does it make when it doesn’t take a genius to realise that the whole bs global free market economy is all about cheap labour of one form or another. Some obviously cheaper than others and it’s obvious that it’ll be the lowest common denominator that applies. What happened in the shipping industry was obviously just the first stage and trial run of the scheme.Although with Latvia’s Russian connections I wouldn’t be surprised if the ‘Philipinos’ actually turn out to be Chinese and the scheme is all part of a hidden Russian/Sino integrationist agenda to weaken the western powers even more by the movement of large scale Chinese populations into Europe.

I have read about that via Facebook… I believe Dinotrans are German Haulier - dinotrans.de/en.html
First they start to re-register plates on thier trucks fleet - German turn to Latvian so they start to hire Philipino drivers instead German or Latvian drivers!
There is a link at the bottom of Dinotrans website.
It takes you to Mr Wong.

The question is why would Latvian regs,in relation to employing Chinese ‘Philipino’ drivers, from outside the so called ‘EU’,be any different to German or British ones. That’s assuming British ones even are any different .

Spot on, that all we need to know !! Well apart from , who did it suprise apart from the OP ?!!!
We knock the French, but to be fair they did have the bottle to guillotine the heads off of the ruling classes.
I translated the document, you have to laugh really. The other Danish firm who’s thinking of doing the same thing because “Filipinos drink less than Eastern Europeans and he doesn’t care who he employs, so long as the job gets done”…Employ Danes then you oxygen thief!
I’m wondering if there will be any legal problems with this. I remember a case a while back where a Czech company was using Ukranian and Moldovan drivers and got in to trouble for it as they didn’t have the legal right to work in the EU. Willi Betz fell foul of the same thing pre 2007 when he was using Bulgarian drivers on work between two or more EU countries, before Bulgaria was a member state and at the time replaced many of his Bulgarians with other Eastern European nationalities who were already EU members.
I dont imagin it will be long before the EU puts a stop to this, they’re happy for Poles and Bulgarians to drive British or German trucks but Filipinos on Latvian trucks might be a bit much. If not then the transport fleets of Europe will soon be like the shipping fleets of Europe, manned by Filipinos and whoever else will work for the least amount of money.
One thing I’d like to know is, what is being said about this in Latvia? Presumably 260 Latvians have been got rid off to make way for these Filipinos, that can’t have gone down well in a country with already high unemployment and low wages?!
I agree, it is wrong, drivers moving to another country or continent to take the work off the locals, they drive the labour prices down.
Mexicans in Mexican trucks
Latvians in Latvian trucks
Canadian… Well you get the picture!

Canadian… Well you get the picture!
Would that be the same Canada where the company has to apply to the government for an LMO each and every time they want to bring in a foreign worker and they have to demonstrate that there are no locals who are capable and want to do that job? The same Canada where if a Canadian truck driver complains that a company with foreign workers wont give him a job, the foreign driver on a temporary work permit will have to make way once his permit expires?
That is similar to this Latvian scenario how exactly? For one, no Canadian company has ever replaced 260 pre-existing Canadian drivers with 260 foreigners of any nationality, it just couldn’t happen.
Companies here who abuse the immigration system often have their right to bring in foreign workers completely revoked and are prevented from employing any new ones whatsoever.

All depends on wether or not you view Canada as an ethnic British colony set up for the benefit of the ethnic British or not.The fact is it’s the British flag that flies over the provinces not the Mexican one. However there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel and it’s the ethnic British colonists in Oz who seem to finally be talking sense unlike some in the home country.Makes UKIP look like the bunch of tossers that they are.So the answer I’d give in that case would be ethnic Brits driving Canadian colonial trucks just like Australian ones or New Zealand ones.

Sorry Wheelnut but that is an ignorant comment .
Fact , there are not enough drivers or employees of any description to fill the vacancies . My home Province of Saskatchewan is going through a boom at the moment , oil , potash , diamonds , uranium , and of course wheat . We have a population of just over 1 million which just is not enough to fill the labour shortage .
Fact , the Canadian Government are positively recruiting immigrants to fill these vacancies , however unlike Britain they do not have an open door policy , certain criteria have to be met by the candidates . Indeed recently in SK immigration policies have been changed as the system was found to be being abused by certain folk from the East .
Whilst I’m sure your comment was meant with tongue firmly stuck in cheek I thought it best to clarify the situation here before others get the wrong opinion .

But the fact is the Brits have to jump through the same hoops to get into our own British colonies as immigrants from anywhere else have to.Which if you read what the ozzies are saying they ( rightly ) want preference given to the British. The issue is one of ( rightly ) closing the door both here and over there to everyone else.In other words it’s time that the Brits started to look after their own.Which would soon show up the fact that immigration policy here and throughout the English speaking colonial countries is at present being driven by the motive of driving down terms and conditions not filling vacant jobs.

Exactly. I’m sure he was trying to make my earlier post seem hypocritical, where there is infact no such element. Canada has a strong need to important immigrant labour in to certain sectors but above all else the Canadian immigration system puts Canadians in Candian jobs first and foremost and immigrants can only take whats left over. That is in no way the same as some German owned, Latvian run cowboy company booting out 260 Latvians in a country with already high levels of poverty and unemployment only to import 260 Filipinos so that that company can speed up the race to the bottom and undercut their compitition who are employing Latvians or Romanians that are obviously now far too expensive, let alone the Germans who this company once employed many moons ago. A Brit, Latvian or Filipino going to Canada would all have to jump through the same hoops and would only be offered an LMO and a subsequent work permit if the company could prove there was no Canadian or Canadian permanent resident available and willing to fill that job first and under no circumstances would the government stand by while a Canadian company imported foreign labour and paid them less than Canadians, which is the whole point that these Filipinos are being brought in.

Havent Chinese immigrants just overtaken the British as the most numerous immigrant group arriving in Australia annually?
