Latest from DHL Swindon

Any one working at Bridgwater Morrisons to confirm how it is from the inside now that it is partly up and running

The new Morrisons RDC at bridgewater and the new B&Q RDC at Swindon are up and on target to open in after October.
Drivers at yate and Swindon Morrisons have are made redundant and have to re-apply for jobs at both the above (both run by DHL). Applications for the 90 odd jobs at Swindon B&Q have been closed through sheer volume.

If you take redundancy but apply for work at any DHL run plant in the next 2 years then you have to pay it back

On the other hand Applications for Morrisons Bridgewater are low as many drivers don’t want to make the move and the drive is around 1½ hours from Yate.
I was talking to 2 polish drivers who explained why they work here;
Driving jobs in Poland are few and far between
Drivers in Poland are paid a lot less than here ([zb] was the exact word)
They are quite happy to find digs in Bridgewater and work all hours as they have no responsibilities.
All drivers at Morrisons DHL will start on £22,000 days.

What happens if you get a job, then DHL take that company over, do you still have to pay it back??

Talking to a Somerfield Bridgewater driver today, He’s thinking of applying, he reckons
£30.000 for days, £32.000 for nights■■?

As far as I know the Somerfields site at Bridgewater is closing and moving to Andover as the Co-op has taken over all Somerfields stores, can anyone verify this please.
£32K for days again can anyone verify this, it seems incredible.
At Iceland Swindon (DHL) new drivers are on £22k while existing drivers with many years behind them are on various rates, at least one told me he was on 29K. Rates I’m afraid are coming down everywhere.

I thought Co op were building a new Southwest and Wales RDC at Avonmouth to replace Bridgwater■■?

somerfields at bridgwater is shutting in aug/sept when new andover rdc is open and ready, chelston and portbury ( chilled ) are staying open until 2013 or when new rdc in avonmouth is open thats from my mate at chelston rdc !!

Have a look at the Morrison web site, it tells you there what the rates are for a 44hr week. All sites vary, to be on top money you need to be based in Wakefield J41!!!

I posted this in another now deeply buried thread, so here it is again.

Anyone know what the shifts are going to be offered at DHL B&Q in Swindon?
I was one to get as far as the interview and driving assessment stage but when asked about the shifts on offer, they were a bit vague.
Their advert said “rotational” but wouldn’t go into it any further.
If my application goes any further, I’m not giving a job up which has reasonable hours, albeit on much less pay, to work for these where homelife becomes a distant memory.
If anyone knows what they have on offer, message me back.
Thanks fellas.

Well said that man…very very true.

probably monday to friday as B&Q don’t want deliveries on a weekend.might be diffrent if your trunking between depots
days are about 04.00 to14.00 finish after a 2’nd run.sometimes earlier,sometimes later.they do a later shift starting about 8 i think

Thanks for your help guys.
I’m currently on a tipper doing quarry work.
The hours can’t be faulted but fed up going home of an evening covered head to toe in crap.
Surprised to hear that B&Q won’t accept deliveries at the weekend.
Must be the only retailer that doesn’t.
Thanks again fellas.

I can verify this as accurate. It is advertised as such on the ‘redundancy board’ at Morrisons Swindon.
BTW still looking for drivers.

That’s not bad, if you started around 18:00-19:00 and did a bit of O/T you would probably gross around £26,000- £28,000.

I don,t know what the situation is work wise is at Bridgewater and the availability of drivers but I can,t see them having a problem getting people, I’d work for that, it’s a clean and easy little number the only problem is it’s working for DownHill Logistics.

That would not surprise me although i have not heard this myself.
DHL are asking their own fully trained and assessed drivers who have been working for the company 4+ years to re apply and attend interviews and assessments to work at Morrisons Bridgewater and B&Q.
Whats that all about??
Some drivers who have applied from the Swindon site to work at B&Q have not even received acknowledgement of their applications others have been asked to resubmit!!
Also the salary at B&Q is £28800 but the first 12months is at £26000 !!! WHY!!!
Originally B&Q had enough vacancies to transfer across all of Morrisons Swindon drivers eliminating any redundancy worries but DHL chose not to do this.
And before anyone says this is to root out poor drivers, well maybe, but if they were poor then how come they remain employed at DHL.I would however say that I dont know of a poor full time driver at Swindon.
THE WHOLE BUSINESS STINKS!!!
Before anyone says I’m bitter, I’m not, I have already moved to a new job but I am very disappointed in the way such a large company has treated and still is treating its staff
