Last of the Next Generation Scanias released

So the last next generation Scania is off the blocks and its…a low cab high visibility jobbie. Now I know it won’t be to everyones taste but I quite like it and it may have a better chance than the others as it uses a familiar cab and dash. And yes before you say it looks low but I imagine it’s air all round. Apart from the usual urban users I’ve thought of one area where it could benefit the drivers immensely- car transporters. Think how much space this will have, plus ability for driver to stand up. Never driven a car transporters so would it be practical? I bow to others superior knowlegw on this.

never driven one either but would imagine, yes, car transporter.

It looks like an over ambitious bin lorry

Reef beat you to it yesterday

O look Another lorry that’s been snowflaked, to make it look all cuddly wuddly, why not cover it in pink fluffy fur, and make the headlights round, so they look like eyes.

But it will still make short work of a tree hugging, lentil munching, urban eco warrior cyclist.

It’ll be a proper PITA to recover when it breaks down.

Most likely, you’d have to winch it onto blocks just to get the underlift underneath it haha.

Not sure about space, the engine hump must be level with the dashboard.

But the engine jump will be under the bed. Between the seats the floor can be flat

If you look at how big trucks have become over the years to make the cab interior more roomy for the driver when away, perhaps it makes sense to have some that are dedicated to urban work.

like this.

This is already being discussed Luke.
And personally it brings you right down low to the road/ floor in the cab ,I would not want to crash in this,It looks like you are part of the crumple zone ,It looks like the steering wheel is right up close to the screen ,Is this a prototype or pre test truck or ready for the road? I’d like to see the crash testing in this .It looks like a bin wagon ,They rarely do more than 15-30mph ,56 mph with 44 tonnes behind it would have dire consequences if you are in a pile up .
I don’t like it.i won’t be driving it in any case.

the urban drivers are going to just love the urban speed bumps.
not even a fire engine will be able to go over them in that.surely its not going into production for uk road use?
bin lorry at best.skip trucks are going to have the bumpers ripped right off of them.
only a matter of time till they sit the steering wheel in the middle of the cab. but a step in the right direction for the eco friendly whale kissing fraternity.

It doesn’t drive at that height, but it’s on full air suspension and can be set to have the front suspension drop down when you apply the park brake, a bit like busses do.

I wouldn’t like it, my arse would be too close to the ground for my liking.
It’s like when I’m motorway driving in my car, I am less confident than when in my truck, not saying I’m nervous driving it or anything, but I do feel more at home sat up in the air.
It’s like parking, I can reverse an artic in spaces with a hair’s breadth to spare each side as second nature, no probs… but crap at revese parking my car. :unamused:

Great less forward visibility and instead of the load deck of a rear ended truck for example, taking out the driver’s lower legs in a serious collision,it’ll now be at the perfect height to take out his chest/neck area. The eco warriors will be congratulating themselves. :unamused:

That’s been done before and didn’t catch on. I drove one for a couple of days then handed it back!

It’s obvious that cab overs are bad enough in that regard but taking the engine out of the collision interface and bringing the driver ahead of it and further down into the worst part of the collision zone, instead of sitting above it,with the engine acting together with the front of the cab to take at least some of the energy away from the driver,is just suicide.

I’m guessing that the eco warriors thought process here is to deliberately make drivers feel less secure and remove forward visibility in the bs delusion that it will mean more road safety. :unamused: :imp:
