lane hoggers

Highway code rule 268
Do not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake. In congested conditions, where adjacent lanes of traffic are moving at similar speeds, traffic in left-hand lanes may sometimes be moving faster than traffic to the right. In these conditions you may keep up with the traffic in your lane even if this means passing traffic in the lane to your right. Do not weave in and out of lanes to overtake.
Lane discipline 264
You should always drive in the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear. If you are overtaking a number of slower-moving vehicles, you should return to the left-hand lane as soon as you are safely past. Slow-moving or speed-restricted vehicles should always remain in the left-hand lane of the carriageway unless overtaking. You MUST NOT drive on the hard shoulder except in an emergency or if directed to do so by the police, HA traffic officers in uniform or by signs.

But I do know how you feel

I have seen it happen

I’ve also noticed a lot more cars going along in lane 1 at 50mph :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Until you try to overtake them

Is it me ? . . . . or do most of them have a National trust sticker in the back window

don’t whinge about the National trust sticker

it’s a great clue that the car is going to be driven badly and won’t be able to reverse or get near the hedge when you’re trying to pass it on a narrow road

I had a guy in a soft top saab,
cruising at 45mph in lane 2
on the only sunny day all year,
soft top down enjoying the sun.

I was tempted to throw a coffee at him,
but decided to turn on the windscreen spray and see if
this got him with some spray. :smiling_imp:

Something must of happend because he woke up
and carried on at 70mph in lane 3

This is one of the few things that really - and I meanREALLY - pees me off. It can give rise to some extremely dangerous situations.

I for one would never undertake with an HGV. Even with a car it is only as a last last resort. To me, taking into account the fact I have a speed limiter and some idiot who’s oblivious enough to be sitting in the middle lane at an inconstant 50 odd could speed up freely (or worse still, pull in), is too much of a risk.

Usually what I will do is trail them at a safe distance at their speed in the inside lane to give them a chance to realise they are in no-man’s land and either pull back in safely or speed up.

I’ll usually be patient and do this for about 3 min or so, depending on the flow of traffic behind me. By the way - while I am being Mr. nice, safe and patient the queue of HGVs forming behind me begins to start cursing me ! After said time I will probably pull in behind them in lane 2 and trail them a little more closely. I prefer doing that to undertaking and obviously it usually ennds up about a million equally miffed HGVs end up trying to undertake us both and the idiot car driver starts to realise and speeds up.

Still I’d rather someone else on his inside than me.

If worst comes to worst, I don’t give a sh–, I will use lane 3 (after the quick left and right check  ). I have had to do tht quite a few times recently, and I didn’t feel too good about it. These idiots hogging the middle lane are to blame though - if I got pulled for it, I would defend myself to the hilt.
