Lady Truck Drivers UK

There were 3 drivers who happened to be female on the ferry back from Dublin today, 2 Irish and 1 Dutch, and I saw 2 others on my run down the M6 and M1.

Maybe they don’t run at night. Mind you as I have such a repetitive run I don’t have much scope for these observations. Shame really.

Brentanna:
Could that be because most women drivers are professionals and do not go hanging our ■■■■ out the window ?

Most?!? I’ve never seen that. Maybe it’s time to change continents!

What a waste in that case, if you got a decent pair, chuck 'em out and give us something better to look at instead of the 30 stone chunk just about to eat their fingers as they have run out of KFC (other unhealthy options are available)!

On a side note, I did see a women going e/b on the M4 with a tank on, she looked scary…!

limeyphil:

I am totally astonished that LP has a wife.

I only saw 2 of them actually driving so you can assume the answer will not be five.

Where clubs are concerned I do feel that many people enjoy what is on offer from various clubs of different sorts and if people get enjoyment from being members then I certainly see no harm in them, and also see no harm in any club being gender specific. (No woman has been allowed to join the Masons for example but there is no outcry about that) There is a difference in many cases between what men and women enjoy - for example magazines. Nobody worries about ‘Woman’s Own’ magazine being aimed specifically at women although I am sure many men enjoy reading it as by the same rule many women — including myself — enjoy reading Custom Car magazine which is probably aimed mainly at men.
I have never personally been a great one for joining clubs although I do spend a lot of time helping out with clubs of varying sorts. I was asked to produce a bi monthly magazine for this new Lady Truck Drivers UK club and have been more than willing to do so.
I can understand that being a member of a club is not for everyone — and that’s fine. As for female truck drivers clubs they too won’t be for everyone - but as Danneke has already pointed out, the original ‘Lady Truckers Club’ has been around for many years and is still going strong, so obviously still has many members who are enjoying being a part of the club. As the new ‘Lady Truck Drivers UK’ also has been approached by many female drivers wishing to join — and was in fact formed because many women drivers had asked for a new club with particular benefits in mind such as cheap car insurance for members - then that also answers the query that there is plenty of room for more than one club aimed specifically at women who work in the haulage industry and as the two clubs offer different benefits for their members then yes — there is plenty of room for these two - and possibly more clubs of this ilk.
I can also see Pats point of view that in her opinion being a member of such a club would make some women feel that they were being set aside as different - Nobody is twisting arms for memberships. After spending over 20 odd years behind the wheel myself I did the job no differently from any of my male colleagues, gender had nothing to do with ability to do the job properly - but I never wanted to be treated like a man and always enjoyed being a lady regardless of the fact that I spent all day in a truck. But if others prefer to ‘blend in’ more that’s also fine by me.
I would also like to point out that despite the fact that I enjoy being a lady I can’t remember a time when I felt the urge to ‘drive with my ■■■■ out’ and certainly can’t remember any of the other female drivers doing so at the time - so although I was tempted to totally ignore that rather childish and narrow minded remark I thought it worth noting.

“Nobody worries about ‘Woman’s Own’ magazine being aimed specifically at women”
Maybe men can’t be arsed complaining about that, or the ‘Womans Hour’ on R4, but I’m sure some women WOULD make an issue of similar things ie… not being allowed in WMC games rooms for years, and now it’s THE LAW that they are entitled to spoil our snooker games.

You know you could always put up a sign something like: DO NOT ENTER MEN PLAYING WITH THEIR BALLS

Maybe this is worth complaining about, by both men AND women!

‘… No woman has been allowed to join the Masons …’

Not wholly true, perhaps see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_the_Eastern_Star

Well a female fire fighter should know how to handle a hose!!!

Seriously though why lower standards to let others into the fire service. The standards should meet the job and that’s that. I like the part of the article where the woman says more women are fire fighters and people should get over it. I doubt that has anything to do with it.

The standards were also written just after the Spanish Armada tired to become submarines. Technology allows for updated to the requirements. The new requirements also benefit male applicants who other wise would not have been able to join the fire house.

Back to the discussion topic, looking forward meeting friends at Truckfest. We will be on stand V16, so everyone is welcome to come and sign our visitors book. Only 2 weeks to go. Liz
