kent transport

I have just found this site and spent most of last night reading through the various posts.I packed up transport/driving in 1996 and sold my kit to a South African government agent.I will be sorting out loads of memorabilia shortly (i was involved in transport from a very early age) in the meantime heres a picture of my F10 weekended in Milan in about 1990.Nothing could have pleased me more as I bobtailed down to a small town near Alessandria and spent the weekend renewing acquaintence with people with whom I had spent a very extended holiday in 1973.I subbed for Intercity for a couple of years, they were OK I suppose, great bunch of drivers ! although their 70p per mile rates werent much good.I have no idea what happened to them though.I used to see Gary from the traffic dept working in a car dealers in Folkestone, but he seems to have left.

Hello and welcome to Trucknetuk tas ,any pics or tales ect are welcome on this thread

That Intercity rig looks like Bob Morris O and M Intl I think they were called.Being a box van he prob had the mail run to Swiss.I did it a few times most notably when the office did their normal changeabout ,took the sealed doors off the trailer and loaded groupage for France and Italy under all the bags of letters, and replaced the doors with GPO seal intact ! I got to St Louis without incident, hid the french t forms etc (not permitted to come in and out) paid my tax and went over the river to Naturals depot to tip.Waiting for me were some Swiss customs with dogs which they put in the trailer and which went mad as the french groupage was actually 2 big plastic bins of meat extract ! I pretended I didnt know it was in there and they unloaded the mail and sent me back to St Louis where I was greeted by the fat old guy with a beard who had stamped my papers on the way in,he asked where I was going,I told him Italy and he became very suspicious and looked at my papers again, eventually he stamped the italian t forms and wrote on them, only valid for transit via Chiasso, needless to say I ignored this completely and drove down to Geneva,I figured that lunchtime would be a good opportunity to drive straight through,it was and I arrived at Lyon later in the afternoon and spent the evening at the centre routier with Penny from Panalpina.Happy days!

This Kent thread brings back memories. I have spent most of my life around transport and grew up in Headcorn so the photos of Woodcocks and Locks brought back many memories.
My dad drove for Sharps toffee in maidstone, woodcocks, ITT in paddock wood, then Philip Crouch and finally for Lumsdens where he had a bad accident that meant he lost his HGV licence and so drove a little fiat van on escorts etc.
Me I drove for BJ Walton, Dockspeed, BET, and last driving job was at Eclipse Recovery. I also had a go at being an OD but the less said about that the better.
I am back in the UK at the weekend so will try and dig out some of my dads photos and try and post them.

Was White trux not from Kent ? , use to work with a guy who was once a driver there , I didnt like him but I use to look at his pictures of his trucks he drove . Blue wagons with white stripe I think :unamused:

blast from the past

Hi Jarvy, What truck did you have at Dockspeed and what year was you there? Paul

Hi Postman Paul, I had a Vovo F12 ****GBE, then Scania 113 N117 BHK before I told Andy where to go and Bubble took over my 1 month old truck. I will try and find some photos in a few weeks time when I go and look in my storage unit.

Hi Mate, Look forward to seeing them.Paul

bless old man Ted Clark

Do you have any pictures of CRG Transag from Gravesend by any chance?.

ill have a look if it the one im thinking of they run mostly 8 leggers

Yes mate, the had light blue Scammells in the early days, and then went over to Volvos i think. My dad used to work for them as a subbie in the 70s & 80s out of Thurrock power station carrying Ash & PFA dust. I think they had some DAFs too.

Sorry, i found this picture after i wrote the text so obviously, yes they did have DAFs.

As promised
