There’s an earlier blog that indicates that he probably is. 'Fraid I live in Cairo so I don’t keep up. Brian was a good bloke to work for. Here’s a few more pics of trucks wot I driv! Robert

Some of those pics take me back to when I used to live in Faversham. I knew Colin well when I was younger. My dad used to buy some of the mans from portway. I remember as a kid being towed through the town with the straight bar they had that connected to the fifth wheel.

A few more Kent wagons I used to drive:

Going back to that picture of Colin Bolton’s D-series Ford, I used to pull a few of these unusual 'fridge trailers about for A&R J Wood. They were built by Strick and were, I believe, American. They had trilex wheels and adjustable rear bogies that could be ‘spread-axled’. I think they had six of them, though I would stand corrected on any of these points. Robert

robert1952, our paths must have crossed as you posted my old motor from my days at BJ Walton (B183 VEU).

For the benefit of Mark’s A & RJ Wood archives, I submit more pictures of lorries I drove in 1983 and '84. The yard shunter (Guy Big-J was ex-Transhield and had a Gardner 180, 6-speed David Brown gearbox and no power steering. Mercifully, I only spent one day with it as a yard shunter. Ironically, I would enjoy a run up to Hoddesdon and back for the sheer novelty of it - such is history and hindsight! Robert

Hello Jarvy, I was only on BJ Walton for the summer of '86 so I didn’t really get to know any drivers. It was an amazing fleet, looking back, with all those ERFs, Seddon-Atkinsons and Foden: proper lorries, mate. As far as I know, all the pictures I posted were of lorries with ■■■■■■■ 290s and 9-speed Fullers. Certainly, I remember the Sed-Atki 400 had the classic ‘round the houses’ upside-down, back-to-front-and-inside-out version of the Fuller RTO9095A 'box. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Also, am I right in thinking that some of those wonderful C-series ERFs with three axles that I didn’t drive had ■■■■■■■ 350s in them? Rumour had it at the time that one of them did. As for your Foden, I rarely drove it: it was always immaculately clean in side, obviously your professional ‘house-keeping’! To be honest, although I am enormous fan of the 9-speed Fuller, I do prefer the installation in ERFs to Foden’s circular cable-change arrangement. There is a great picture on the net of your Foden climbing up Jubilee Way out of Dover in an owner-driver’s colours. I dare not reproduce it here for offending copyright, but if you can’t find it, send me a ‘private message’ and I’ll stick the picture on my answer! All the best, Robert

This Scania W656ORM is the one I drove for Harrier Express  . I have posted pictures of it earlier in this thread. In fact I think it was mine when this photo was taken, I can see my Welsh headrest covers that the Mrs made for me. Robert we have most probably met at some time, great pictures

Bless you, mate. I worked at Harriers several times, sometimes casual, sometimes part-time, sometimes full-time over the years. It is to Simon Wilkinson’s credit that he has survived one of the worst transport periods in history for hauliers. Hats of to him. Here are a few more pics of the Series-4 Scanias I drove for Simon - hope yours is one of them. Robert

Great pictures Robert, thanks. I think Harriers Scanias were ex Eddie Stobarts. Harriers are still going strong today.

Robert, I couldn’t agree with you more, Simon has worked very hard to keep on top of things. I worked for him from 2004-2008 and have worked for him as a casual ever since, I was out on new years day for him  He is the best boss I’ve had in haulage. He always has time to chat and asks how the kids are. He lets me take my boy out with me and trusts me to get on with the job. I’ll go back when the kids are older :sunglasses:
The the114s were ex Stobarts. The Daf is ex Fransens, we also had ex Pulleyn Dafs. The Harrier fleet is all Volvo now and still looks good. I’ve put some photos earlier in this post. I’ll get around to putting some more on.

Good to see a photo of one of Francis Davis mercs.
A good professional company carefully run by Chris Dillow and David Pilcher, nice people to deal with.

Here are some more of Harrier Express.

Love all your photo’s keep them coming

Yes, they are STRICK trailers and built in U.S. , as you say.

Strick was a financial backer of Transport Pool trailer rentals in U.S. When they started T.I.P. trailer rental in Rotterdam and U.K. a number of these reefer and box van trailers were sent over to increase the hire fleet - all built to U.S. spec’ of course with Trailex wheels and close coupled axles etc and Thermo King fridge units. Late 1960’s early '70s built.
