Robert, all the c series and the Fodens had E320’s with the nine speed fullers and Rockwell axles. I had a c series from new but swapped it for the Foden as I preferred the bigger cab. I could stand up in the Foden and as I did mostly European I welcomed the bigger cab.
At the time there was a driver working there who had worked for Astrans, the late Brian Peeke.
The photos bought back a lot of memories.
I have just had a look and Supertow was a previous company name for BJ Walton. It was the original name when she was new.
Talking of BJ Walton, I know I have a cracking photo of ERF C series B703 XKP. I will try and dig it out and post it up.

Thanks for that correction Jarvy; I wondered why that roof-pod C-series was so lively! Here are some more BJ Walton shots for you:
robert1952 I have sent you a pm please read.Paul
And, back in the mid-80s, these Portway machines, which had really slick 13-speed Fuller 'boxes. Robert
Mark R, B703 XKP was mine from new till I changed it for the Foden.
Robert just as an aside the most embarrassing moment of my life was delivering a Gartner trailer to the Triumph bra factory in Swindon. It took ages to unload and at lunch time the guys on the loading bay said I should use their canteen but unless I was brave to walk round the road and not take the short cut across the factory floor.
Me being made of stronger stuff went across the shop floor and I have never heard the like before or since. Hundreds of women on machines shouting the most rude things you could ever hear. Made this 25 year old blush and I couldn’t get out quick enough!!!

Ha ha! Oddly enough, I actually remember tipping that Gartner trailer in the photo, even though it was 28 years ago! When I got to the timber merchants they asked me if I wouldn’t mind backing into their little yard. It was a hot day and it was an extremely tight manoeuvre, but I got it in and the blokes helped me out of the cab, handed me a cup of tea and said, ‘you sit there mate, we’ll undo the tilt and unload you.’ Amazed, I said ‘what’s all this about?’ And they told me that other drivers always refused to back into the yard! A bit odd that! R
Love the old Lash photos Robert. Did the name ‘Lash’ come from the surname of the company owners?..LAst & SHowel or something similar?.
A Wood & Sons Merc loading Christmas trees mid 80s.
Anybody remember Ken Trowell from the70’s/80’s? He ran 2 Transcons. He drove 1 himself, and Ronnie Wood drove the other. Eventually, Kenny turned it in I think, for whatever reason, and IIRC Ronnie took on one of the wagons himself, and so started out as a haulier.
In the mists of time, I may have got some wires crossed, and I stand to be corrected. However, my original question stands, ie do you remember Kenny Trowell?
P.S., his wagons were predominately red. They were signwritten, and mildly customised, each one fitted with upright stacks, sun visors, etc. They looked very tasty, but not OTT.
I do remember the name and the Transcons running about in Kent

I think you are correct there Mark, that’s where the name came from.
My memories of LASH are of them double stacking flats onto a flat trailer at Teynham and running them about
Teynham!, I meant Norton, does anyone remember Tom Hart having a spray shop there?, a lot of the Sparshatts Mercedes were painted by Tom until they opened there own.
I remember ken trowels transcons got to know him a little around all the builders merchants nice bloke stunning well looked after lorries regards rowland
Ken Trowell had quite a mixed fleet at one time with most makes represented. He ran Mercs, Dafs, Volvos,& Ivecos as well as the Transcons. Most of the work was out of Milton Pipes in Sittingbourne. I also remember a particularly nice Scania (possibly a 143). I was subbing for Bournecrete at the time doing similar work so saw them at the builders merchants. Ron Wood already had a tidy fleet of his own by this time doing similar work.
