WKE would be more likely I would have thought. Did, nt you have some photos of Newtons Seddon Atkinsons Paul?..I might even have some somewhere. We used to see them in Sheerness steel mill when me old man was working for JWQ.

They was always in Sheerness, there was 4 Seddons I think P,R,S and T, the F10 was on a V and I remember going in a Borderer that may have been N reg. Trying to find a photo of them all parked in Astrans yard at West Malling.

Mark R did you have photo’s in 2 editions of Classic Truck as I missed a copy.

Yes, the ‘Classic Kent’ article was spread over two issues, and they have asked me to do more. Might do one in the new year. Perhaps we’ll get a couple of decent Newtons to put in.

Think this is 1978 as my Dad had this from new, taken at Newington station by the looks of it.

Is this the same Newton that is still operating from Aylesford?

Yes. I think their depot is actually in Snodland at the old papermill site.

Must be a couple of years now Chris…he drives for Freshlink from Spalding but parks at Spade Lane Rainham where they have an operating centre for about 3 lorries. Was talking to him last week.

Is Matt Divers the owner who ran the yellow Scanias out of Cool Chain`s yard? They had the straight through side pipes, sounded awesome and always looked good.

Yeah, that’s him. His first motor was an ex Jordan Grand Prix Scania V8 it was yellow when he bought it so just stuck with yellow for the others. They were all Scania’s except for one Volvo FH16.

This is the only lorry Matt had from brand new, Scania R620. His original ex Eddie Jordan Scania can be seen in the background.

I remember his FH16. I met it and it’s driver “Chalkey” at Antwerp docks. Matt was subbing for Heritige International at the time. I met Chalkey a couple of years later with the ex Jordan’s Scan is down in Littlehampton, loading for Cool Chain. Never saw him after that, I don’t know if he was with Matt until he called it a day?

Chalkey left Matts quite a long time before the finish,i think they had some sort of disagreement over something. Last i heard Chalkey was driving for ALCO (Neil Yates) from Snodland.

Did Matt run a 143 Centurion? I seem to remember it getting re-sprayed/touched up at Nobbies workshop at Tilminstone.

He did, in fact he had two 143s. The yellow one was ex Wheatagrove & the black one was ex Mortimers (Eat More Chips).

Anyone remember Hall’s (sheds) of Paddock Wood?

“If you want a balls-up get a Hall’s hut” was the rather unkind local joke about the company. I think one or other of the Keeves brothers who later drove for Jack Henley had worked there previously.

I drove for many Kent hauliers during the past 30 years or so, often between teaching and I took plenty of happy snaps. I’ve just bunged a load of them on the Astran / Middle-East drivers thread so I won’t repeat them here. Here’s a few new ones to be getting on with. Robert

I drove these for Colin Bolton of Faversham. The red Transcon was on loan from Robin Phelps and had a ■■■■■■■ 350 and 9-speed Fuller: it flew.
