Next Here is a picture of my Transporter unloading in Croydon when I was driving for BRS Toyota in Queenborough 1982

Notice how the (probably) Hoyner trailer has a massive 7 cars on!!

No ■■■■, I don’t think we know each other but I’m sure our paths must have crossed at some point over the years…I didn’t take the photo of the Volvo in the yard, it was a friend of mine so I guess he just walked in and took the snap and walked back out again!. Also, nice to see the photo of the Actros, I had two of those and really liked them…I guess you weren’t so impressed if you only had one.
Believe it or not, I actually sold my car to the fella that drove that (and yes, he really was a tart) nice enough bloke though.
Regarding the Thomson Mercedes, double manning that to Germany must have been…cosy!.

Just reading back through the previous posts, I notice mention of Hirst & Phelps…my dad used to drive for them in the early 70s. At the time they parked at Ospringe where the used car place is now but later moved to Sittingbourne and parked next to the original Sparshatts building on the Eurolink. I think dad drove an AEC tipper at the time but would also sometimes drive Robins Foden eight wheeler. I believe Robin now lives in Spain but heard Alan Hirst sadly died recently.

Think this is 1978 as my Dad had this from new, taken at Newington station by the looks of it.

What’s the Reg of that seddon atkinson please ?

[This is a photo of my Dad taken whilst driving for a company called Nicholls (I don’t thing it was any relation to E H or Don but not sure) it was based at the bottom of Pump Lane Rainham (where Kingsferry coaches used to park) This picture was early 50’s the company used to deliver confectionary stuff to shops & general haulage. The lorry is a Bedford (ex army) will a bar across the front (Wades in Holding Street Rainham also ran these) the front window opened by wing nuts & when the wipers packed up you had to operate them by hand.

O & no Heater (Real Lorry Drivers) ■■■■

This is a picture of one of my Scanias in November 1988 in was involved in that bad accident in the Fog on the M6 near Corley Services, the lorry hit another lorry up the arse & caught fire the driver Alan Crockett from Margate got out through the front window OK. The load was 40gl Drums filled with nuts & bolts the fire brigade said when they got hot they were firing off like bullets, the Scania was only one week old. The first of my many panic attacks. ■■■■ Matthew

This is when I shrank my lorries to save on the Road Tax…

I was offered a good deal from Sparshatts on this one, the motor was no problem & Lyndon (The Tart) loved it, the only down side was the back-up & after sales from Sparshatts. I found that once they had sold you a vehicle they didn’t really want to know anymore, was the same with the last van I had from them. I suppose I had been spoilt with the pervious service I got from Scantruck & KTS Dargate.

M1 near Toddington 1988 lorry in front braked suddenly my driver didn’t…Second Panic Attack plus First Ulcer!

Forgot I put lights & bull bars on the last few Magnums & my Volvo in the background
