Ive got quite a few photos of RJ Matthews motors. Will have to dig them out. Ive got one of B222 XKN (Volvo) also got loads of photos of Bill Thompsons, Barrios, and just about every other Kent haulier. Must be well into the thousands now!!.

Would be good to see some Bill Thompson pics.

I would post some if I could…not sure how though.

Bill Thompson was a “hero” of mine when I was a young kid, I spent some time going to Germany I. One of his 1632 V10’s, just the best truck ever, and looked so smart!

I worked with Bill between 1970 to 1973 at G L Baker Ltd in Oare Faversham, I went with him a few times in the 70’s to Munich Avon Cosmetics for Laser 2 loads a week c/o trailers in Ostend I lost contact with him in the 80’s I heard he past away but don’t know the details?

Think this is 1978 as my Dad had this from new, taken at Newington station by the looks of it.

Is this the same Newton that is still operating from Aylesford?

Yes TDL102, although I think John had to start again in the 80’s and started off with some Merc vans.

It must have been the cosmetic factory I went to as I remember. Being given loads of samples for my mum.
There were two pick ups for the return load if I remember correctly, the tilt had to be stripped on both occasions to get it in, and it was bloody hot, sweated like a pig, lol.

I believe he also ran some loads to Turkey in the 80’s

Try and get some pics on, would be great to see what you have.

I,m pretty sure I was working for Cartransport in about 82. I had a Saturday job there. They were just changing over from the Red 1626s to the White 1625s. Worked there during the school holidays too. When there was nothing for me to do they let me out for a ride in the lorry. Great times, Rowen Broadbent was the manager. Nice to see your picture, hav,nt got many of those.

Funny I was thinking I miss driving one day a week, Sunday morning trip to Chepstow or Bristol and Monday to Friday at Scantruck.

Couldn’t remember who had it. Steve always gave me a decent motor on a Sunday, knowing it would come back as it went out. Sounds like it’s gone downhill lately mate.

Another Newton’s, they operated out of the same yard as Astrans. The F88 was my Dad’s, it was his dream truck as an owner driver.
