remember doing Sheerness ‘store’ with them when I started out in late 80s. Don’t remember seeing any RJ Matthew lorries on the fruit job though. My dad worked for William Elvys (remember them) and various other local firms.

You didn’t teach him very well as he should be standing on the kerb, as not to get his shoes too wet

Nice Picture Thats One of the Last of its kind (Series 3) I never liked the look of the next Model so changed mainly to Magnums, who cares what they did to the gallon etc as long as they looked nice!!!

I was on Towmasters at Queenborough between 1977 & 1979 unfortunately I don’t have any photos of their lorries (ERF’s Red & White then Blue & White) but I found this picture of my DAF 280, Towmasters used to hire Tractor units from a Company in Broxbourne

Think this is 1978 as my Dad had this from new, taken at Newington station by the looks of it.

After Towmasters a lot of the drivers went on to Ridham Freight Services in 1979, some of the Ridham Freight drivers went over to Towmasters so it was a bit of a swop around. Ridham Freight had a bit of a clear out of the old gang, some had been caught running ‘dodgy’ & parking at Neils (naughty naughty) A guy called Tony Love who had been working for Micky White Trucks took over Ridham Freight Services after Bowaters got shot of it, he went on to obtain some motors from Micky, mainly Mercs & Dafs (Sleeper Cabs woppee!!) he renamed it Routier Freight Services (French for Roadways as he explained) also it meant not having to get new sheets being still R F S on them. I left in 1981 after getting caught parking ‘dodgy’ at the Bridgewood Café Bluebell Hill (naughty naughty).

Ive got quite a few photos of RJ Matthews motors. Will have to dig them out. Ive got one of B222 XKN (Volvo) also got loads of photos of Bill Thompsons, Barrios, and just about every other Kent haulier. Must be well into the thousands now!!.

Would be good to see some Bill Thompson pics.

I would post some if I could
not sure how though.

At the bottom of the text box where you enter a post are three button " save, Preview, submit"
Under that I’d two tabs, “Options and Upload attachment”

Click on “Upload Attachment” and you should get a “choose file” icon, click on this and find the picture you want on your device, then click the add file icon at the end of the box you clicked the choose file icon

Bill Thompson was a “hero” of mine when I was a young kid, I spent some time going to Germany I. One of his 1632 V10’s, just the best truck ever, and looked so smart!

Is this the same Newton that is still operating from Aylesford?
