Keeping trucks at home

Is it me or don’t you see as many tractor units in people’s driveways any more?

Go down near Stranraer or Cairnryan and you’ll see quite a lot of trucks parked up in driveways. Usually of the Montgomery or McBurney veriaty though.

A few weeks ago i just happened to be running past home solo. I asked if i could park unit at home and manager was fine with it. Wasnt until the next day in office more than one of my neighbours had phoned my company to complain. So that put a stop to that.

If I bring mine home ,neighbours are fine, yet less than half a mile up the road is a small layby, just big enough for one truck,it`s an old bus stop. The old hag who lives opposite it came out one evening screaming and shouting how she was going to call the police, inform vosa, ring my gaffer etc. Face was a picture when I offered her my mobile to use.

This.

The 8 wheelers only been home once for about an hour and one of the neighbours complained. We found out which one and sorted it out though

Mine used to be kept near home (in a layby and washed on a Saturday morning on my drive) I’d say for about 50% of the weekends throughout the year. Also been kept in the yard at my wife’s work in the past.

Not much recently though as we don’t get as much work “my way” atm.

Occasionally have one outside my house (rigid or unit) but never unit & trailer - don’t want to annoy the neighbours too much!!!

Luckily I live in a quiet cul-de-sac so not much traffic etc and my neighbours are good as gold - I’ve had their kids knocking on the door before asking to sit in it.

Typical of British people, always have to zb complain/moan about something, can’t see what harm it causes parking a truck up if there’s space, no trailer, engine off, no dirt or maintenance being carried out, in the US you can…!!!

There are some real snobs and busy body’s out there, some are so snobbish they even complain if you park a works van outside your house. Makes the place look common don’t you know, and what will that so to the house prices?

They’re the ones that go to lidls and put the shopping in a waitrose bag.

I’ve one fetched a fridge trailer home & stupidly left it running & the neighbour complained to my face & I totally respected that & it taught me to be more considerate to my surroundings. The ones I can’t stand are the ones that make a massive deal about it, ring the boss up, council etc:!:

The old ■■■■■■■ across the road complained to me when I parked my car outside his house once, not infront of his gate or drive…
The next morning both my cars were abandoned there for him opening his curtains and my works van when I got in from work, they sat outside for a couple of weeks until I was told off by my partner… Think he got my point anyway, prick.

To be fair there are times when bringing the truck home is a bloody nuisance.
I used to have one guy bringing his unit plus 20ft skelly and empty box home.As normal with empty boxes it used a clang and rattle all the time
Always arrived after 10.00 at night when the kids where in bed and always off for 5.30 ish in the morning when I was in bed, revving the engine to get his leaking air back up to pressure.
Eventually had to tell him that coming home on a ‘dodgy’ was fine but if he disturbed my life anymore I would have to disturb his.

Parked my truck at home for 8 years, at first had the law come round to tell me it was illegal to park after a neighbour complained. Said to police officer to take a good look at my tractor unit, the plates tell`s you it is French registered no problem parking at home since.

used to fetch my coach home at weekends if i was starting next job closer then the yard.
had agreement with wife’s boss to park on the surgery car park (works at docs)
the police were told just incase it needed moving. and had my number!
the nimbys called the police. site security. phone number on coach,
to be told that its parked with permission of land owner!

they even called vosa. who phoned the boss who told them i was parked near my next pick up. vosa not bothered as it spent 2 nights at yard every week.

these are the same folk that now whine as the car parks locked out of hours, and i am one me the key holders!

whilst working for my previous firm i used to park an eight wheel grab opposite the house on many occasions,as and when i needed to.
the neighbours are fine with it-i always cart a bit of rubbish away for them if needed.
no point parking at home now though as the yard is only three miles away
