Occasionally have one outside my house (rigid or unit) but never unit & trailer - don’t want to annoy the neighbours too much!!!
Luckily I live in a quiet cul-de-sac so not much traffic etc and my neighbours are good as gold - I’ve had their kids knocking on the door before asking to sit in it.
See that is what it’s all about I’d love to bring my motor home give it a clean let the neighbours kids have a go but as seen as my yards 3 miles up the road there’s no need. It’s how it should be though, some deliveries i make if there’s kids about I let them sit in the cab press the horn and what not its how things should be problem is there’s always some miserable ■■■■■■■ who has to complain phone the office cause I’ve nipped home on my lunch or waive the h&s card about because I let some lad sit in my truck which made his day I wish sometimes I was driving 30 years ago I bet there was none off this bs then.
Three of us parked lorries at home in front of six houses years ago. Now you would have the operators licence revoked, as did a local operator for not parking at his operating centre.

Wasnt until the next day in office more than one of my neighbours had phoned my company to complain.
Typical of British people, always have to zb complain/moan about something, can’t see what harm it causes parking a truck up if there’s space, no trailer, engine off, no dirt or maintenance being carried out, in the US you can…!!!
And in Canada. Drive around here and you’ll see several dozen trucks parked up in drive ways. We don’t have any sort of operators licences restrictions in this country though. With some companies here its a requirement of employment that you actually take the truck home, or find somewhere yourself to park it as they don’t have yard to park the truck in themselves!
No idea where to start, I’m single, no criminal record, 8 years hgv, no clean licence though, I’d go tomorrow if I could…
You’d get a job very easily if you wanted. Work permits take a lot longer for companies to get now but its by no means impossible. Points on your licence wont matter, you’ll be driving on a Canadian one, your UK licence is largely irrelevant. Drink driving might be the only issue as that’s also a criminal offence I believe but things like speeding don’t matter one bit. I wouldn’t encourage you to come here if you had a family in tow but if you’re single and want an adventure, there’s worse things you could do.
Haven’t been to Cornwall for a while, but in the non-posh bits every second house seemed to have a Seddon Atkinson tipper of some kind parked up out side.
Dave the Renegade:
Have a look in the truck magazines, always looking for drivers, take the plunge.
Ive looked but some of the requirements are a bit too much for me(amount of experience, age), some look like you have to go through an agent or something which of course is attached with a fee+red tape, I hear some drivers say they’ve dealt with the companies who are recruiting direct & went to the embassy to apply for whatever is required & apparently when you get there you have to take all your tests again for every category so I don’t know what to believe or where to start… I have relatives in the US but I don’t know anyone in Canada, I have a partner but no kids.
a few years ago when I lived in Lowestoft I asked me boss if it was all right to take the motor home so that I could leave the car with the wife and to save her the hassel of dropping me off and picking me up.
anyway I got the motor home and within 10 mins my neighbour was banging on me front door. when I answered I got a barrage of abuse about the lorry being outside and that if I didn’t move it she would phone the police.
I said be my guest, its taxed and insured so they won’t do nothing.
anyway 1/2 hour later i got another knock and it was the old bill.
they asked all the routine questions about insurance etc etc and then he said I was illegally parked and I said I wasn’t. he said just to take it down the road turn it round and park it in same place facing the other way and I would be legal.
the worst bit about the whole story is a few days later I found out that her late husband had been a lorry driver all his working life and he always parked his truck outside the house.

I brought this thread to the attention of the Tesco management and the good news PD is they’re organising a whip round and farewell party for you!

There sure wasn’t. I grew up on a small estate, every night, monday through till sunday, there was always five tippers parked up, one of those beens my dads
It is very common in France to see units by their houses.
When i drove for Lindner,an Austrian firm, i used to park for the weekend by a village hall.
A slip road out of the way.
An ex Milatary chap objected and rang the Police. The man said the truck attracted local lads and they tore off the ivy on his wall.He said there is an official truck park 8 miles away.Use that.
All the Police said was keep the cab curtains open so nobody thinks the driver has died or is ill.
With my own unit the pub owner would come out and say i can not drive up there.A small lane which is passable.I said it is taxed and insurance and i live up the road.
A free truck park got shut by the Council as nosey neighbours wrote to the paper to say they saw a female driver ■■■■■■■■■■ in her cab with her curtains open. But who was looking at who?

There are some real snobs and busy body’s out there, some are so snobbish they even complain if you park a works van outside your house. Makes the place look common don’t you know, and what will that so to the house prices?
They’re the ones that go to lidls and put the shopping in a waitrose bag.
The old [zb] across the road complained to me when I parked my car outside his house once, not infront of his gate or drive…
The next morning both my cars were abandoned there for him opening his curtains and my works van when I got in from work, they sat outside for a couple of weeks until I was told off by my partner… Think he got my point anyway, prick.
I’m in an ongoing battle with my neighbour over parking. So my solution is similar to yours. Currently in my little close there are 15 parking spaces. Of those 15 4 are disabled, there are 14 vehicles in the remaining parking spaces and 2 on my drive, the 14 vehicles all belong to either my garage, my partner, her sister or me. He can’t get on his driveway because I’ve blocked it with a tractor and trailer. He currently parks at the end of the road I live on because the rest is double yellows.
Why? Because he dented my car trying to back his poxy boat trailer ( empty) onto his driveway with acres and acres of space as then wouldn’t make good the damage.
