Reason i ask is last sunday night i had my last cigarette (30 a day for 10 years)
and im like a timebomb waitng to explode so i just need something to stop me fidgeting and getting irritable and wound up
Shaun i tried the patches once before about 7 years ago i gave up for 30 days then as soon as i stopped using the patches i started smoking again i put it down to the patches still putting nicotine in system so when i stopped using them i went straight back on the smoke and the chewing gum tastes violent i tried a piece on monday and nearly vomited
so cold turkey it is
Basiclly i just need something to keep me calm before i do something stupid

simon
Beer?
You must be a mind reader Lib as when the wife goes to work at 6 im off down the pub for a swill must be a gluton for punishment as everyone keeps telling me to avoid the pub
when igave up smoking simon i bought loads of chupa chup lollies the tangy ones
gives your hands something to do tastses nice and takes away that taste you get in your mouth when your gagging
plus you have to brush your teeth more often so it takes away the smokers teeth you get after a few years
Well im pretty chuffed actually im just back from the pub after 4 pints of fosters and NO cigs (managed to offend a few people with my new found anti smoking speil )
But i did it 1st pub drink without a smoke
You’ll have to excuse me now i’ve just got to go lick an ashtray
When i gave up when i found i was pregnant, my moods went skywords, one for being pregnant and another because i couldn’t smoke. The doctor, who tended to practise more herbal remedies first gave me something called
Chamomila
They come in a small tablet form, and when ever you feel yourself getting wound up you just pop one under your tongue and let it do it’s stuff. It may just be a physchosymatic effect, but isn’t it worth a try even if it does work?
kalms didn’t make me sleepy or drowsy but they may affect people in different ways.
As for giving up smoking I gave up very slowly. Started by not smoking while working only during breaks. then only at dinner breaks. Then not at work at all only on the way there and back. Then didn’t take cigs to work at all. Next step cut at the one at brekkie. So first one of the day was when I got home in the evening. Next was the one after evening meal that was the hardest, made sure i got up and started doing some thing as soon as I’d finished eating. All this had it down to about three a day so I packed them in. That was about twenty years since never smoked since and never regretted it. I had tried all ways to give up this was the only succesful way for me.
Any way Simon I hope you kick the habit It is worth it. I’ve got a large motor bike I couldn’t have afforded if i was still smoking.
I gave up smoking when I had to spend some time in Hospital with kidney stones, However I would not recommend this as a way to give up - it was bloody painful
Hi Simon Kalms shouldnt affect your driving (if your any good in the first place) they affect your nervous system and dont make you fall sleep
as for the stop smoking idea…well it is a good idea…ive been trying for 40 years and i spoke to the nurse a while ago at the doctors who told me well i smoke so shes a lot of good..so she gave me loads of boxes of patches..i tried everything and everyway to light them..they dont light..or if they do they dont stay alight..and the taste is awful..so i went back to ciggies..but im on 10 a day instead of 20.so thats an improvement…but i`m gonna try and give them up again in another 40 years…watch this space…
have a nice day
Well day 4 and ive been for a beer again and i still dont want a smoke so i think im gaining on it But if anyone wants a fight BRING IT ON MUTHA [ZB]ers I’LL KILL YOU ALL

im quite suprised how well its going so far i wouldnt say its been easy but im getting there
I gave up about 4 years ago, wasn’t the first time I had given up. I gave up for 6 years once then my marriage broke down and I started again. Smoked on and off for several years then but truthfully I couldn’t smoke now as I think it would probably kill me in a few weeks the chest is that bad after all those years of abuse.
My only advice is that NEVER fall into the trap of calling yourself " an ex smoker ", there just is not such a beast in the world. Every person who has ever smoked has a point at which it will be the most natural thing in the world to reach out and pick up that ■■■, with a bit of luck you wont ever reach that point.
