Just out of curiosity

Can a lorry’s speed limiter be altered to go that bit faster by a driver, or is it a more complex task.I know it would be illegal but just curious to know if and is it ever done by drivers.

mmm

how could you think such a thought ■■? :unamused:

I doubt a modern one could be tweaked without some special equipment, but I do remember some old ones that could be changed from 56mph to 60mph by a simply moving a switch on the control box. Although it never bothered me, always been quite happy to trundle on, it became such a problem where I was working at the time that driver got a written note saying that is they were caught doing it, it would be instant dismissal.

where’s the zipped mouth smiley?.. :sunglasses:

don’t tell 'em Pike.

I presume that turning the ignition off and on again mid flight doesnt work anymore?
Never done it meself but apparently it used to work in MANs and a bit of blue tac over the abs warning light used to stop the glare :sunglasses:

A quick relay swap used to work a treat in the F2000’s :grimacing: No set on the cruise but you could bang her in top and raise it and the cruise -/+ stalk leaving a steady trace. Together with a spot of piano key switching in the head to alter the calibration and off you went

Ignition key trick also worked a treat on Scania 3 series non electric pump motors too, you had to pull the ignition barrel solenoid supply off to allow you to flick the key back first though

Turning the key back on the old MANs pre F2000 would cut out the limiter. But it left you without any electrics, lights, indicators etc. Daf 85, pull the fuse out replace with a blown one and off you go, fairly quickly!

Now that I’m older and wiser I do what it’s meant to do, wether that’s 51 or 56.

Scania did the same but a quick flick off and back on usually killed the limiter for a random amount of time :grimacing:

On the 4 series Scania you could flick the ignition switch on and off and it would knock out the limiter (and your abs). Nowadays it’s set in the ECU and you need the computer software to change it.

If you’ve got a fire engine and blip the lights and sirens on for 5 seconds with the accelerator pedal pushed down then it’ll override the limiter until you slow back down again…  :unamused:

Didn’t need to do that, if you adjusted the outer throttle cable right up and took all the free play out (2 x 17mm spanners apparently :open_mouth: ) then to all intents and purposes the vehicle was still standard, but boot the throttle hard and it would click past at the pump end…apparently they’d cruise at 95…so i’m told.

I’m just old, no blinkin wiser… :smiling_imp:

The later ones were “fly by wire” so no throttle cable unfortunately Juddian, hence the more creative fudge

Pesky electrics, never did trust 'em, give me a cable to adjust or a rod to bend every time… :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

WTF do you think this is, Ireland…■■?

According to the ■■■■■■■■ my truck went 2 mph faster after having the speed set with worn tyres, then having new fitted

Remember the 112s. Used to disconnect the tacho under the grill  Every 4 series I’ve had has had all the switches done. Daf 95s were the same :sunglasses:

Get a strong magnet, read the correct article from VOSA, and it explains in great detail where to fit the magnet

My old boss had a set off old wheels with just about legal tyres and swapped them before tacho calibation then after swapped back. Yes it works

I couldn’t possibly comment wether this would work or not

It will
