Just to prove I did occaisionally relent Andrew, one guess which is the odd one out!!! The driver that parked that lump of crap next to those quality motors should be ashamed of himself!!!

hi dennis,
i hope you didn’t send the buffalo very far.a headless wonder demonstator :exclamation: what exactley would that demonstrate, what not to buy.who in the once mighty british leyland thought of that engine  and how were they ever going to be any use    a bit like trying to play golf with a spade
regards andrew.

We ran it for a month IIRC Andrew and we gave it a fair “pasting”!! I don’t think it was ever cold except for a Saturday night!!! Daventry and back on nights then day shift to Lancs and back!! The drivers nearly liked it less than me and I never got behind the wheel, but we had about 12,000 miles of “gratis” running out of it other than the derv it used!!! Cheers Dennis.

You’ve never changed one bit Andrew!!! That F86 would have been among the earliest shipped into the UK I would think, so they weren’t “backward” in coming forward at JM and trying something completely new were they! I bet they got some stick off the old hauliers in S.Wales!!! Most of them probably didn’t know where Sweden was! they thought the only place that manufactured decent motors was Sandbach and Walton-le-Dale!!! Nice “atmospheric” shot all the same mate,me? I was punching my D1000 up and down to London trying not collapse, knackered,in a heap!! Happy days for us both, cheers Dennis.

as my old mate bubbleman would say,“straight out of the box”.two brand new marathons fresh from the paint shop, supplied by fletchers swansea.■■■■■■■ nhc 250 and a 9509 fuller.they didn’t look like this for very long.

pete 359:

Ah! Andrew, I wondered when you’d pluck up the courage to put on a shot of the motor you drove at Joints!!! Anon II.

hi dennis,
   ,the only thing i drove then was my raleigh arena bike,as i was only 15 when the transit was new.this replaced the sherpa pic-up which in terms of reliability and comfort, was best described as the van equivalent of the marathons  .the transit was replaced in 1984 by a merc.that did 10 years of trouble free service :sunglasses: .

Only a slight improvement, not a lot,but I’ll own up to driving it even if Andrew denies all knowledge of the ■■■■■■ ( the Ford!!!) by virtue of his age at the time the shot must have been taken!! Cheers Dennis.

Quite right about the Merc vans Andrew! This is a shot of one of a number of Merc vans we ran over the years at Bewick Transport, fleet name “Junior All Star”.Parked in the depot at Milnthorpe behind the tractor rank.

Dennis looking at the Iveco, it looks as if it was C reg and not the motor with the turbo on it. We ran 2 iveco’s a C reg non turbo, and a D reg with the blower. What a difference there was between them, the later being far superior, and at the time being better than the motor in the Transit. However the seats and cab were inferior to the transit in both comfort and driving position. We ran our vans at max weight, including towing a trailer, with tacho’s loaded, and must admit that Iveco 35/10 iirc was some tool.
I always found the 307D Mercs to be underpowered, the 308Ds with the 5 cylinder in 1989 were a great improvement, and began their intrusion into the Transits market.
Looking at photo’s here and in the mag’s, the new Transit seems to of lost its character. The Movano and its cousins seems to look the part nowadays, a lot better than the CF for sure.

Regards Paul.

Hiya Paul,Ours was the non-turbo model and IIRC I got it dead cheap, but it was never called on to work hard, did the odd little jobs here and there and then we sent it to our Rochdale depot later.I can’t re-call what happened to it,it probably rotted away!!! Cheers Dennis.

hi all,
j200 jmh was new in 1991,joint’s first 1735.driven by peter hardy and many people including me on nights and weekend’s.seen here coupled to an abortion of a tilt, why o why did joint have such crap trailers?.loaded with relief supplies for croatia.during the early 90’s,the then mighty british steel had supported a charity for i think? a hospital and told several of their hauliers that they would also have to support this charity by donating an artic and driver.ex middle east man, terry tamlyn was the driver and he was assisted■■? by as i recall a couple of illtydd thomas’ drivers.who as terry told me on his return were no bloody help whatsoever :laughing:my scanner is still giving me the hump
