Bewick:
This is a shot of a Bewick trailer standing in the depot we once had at Hockliffe north of Dunstable on the A5.It is loaded with Dexion racking from their factory in Dunstable.Notice the nice clean, straight, lines of the Crane Fruehauf 40footer!!! Cheers Dennis,
hi dennis,
we used to take abbey coil to dexion at hemel hemstead.
regards andrew.
Obviously our load was the next link in the industrial process Andrew!! We had Dexion shelving in our stores, which I suppose you may also have!! Cheers Dennis.

stopped at “the caravan” in leominster .
Itwas a pity that ERF was unreliable it had injector problems and was laid up for sometime . but it did cross the channel and broughtn bones back to Leiners at Treforest . I think Joints were not too popular with the ferries ! regards kk

hi kk,
to be fair,i wouldn’t say d675 nuh was unreliable.though in my experience it was not anywhere near as reliable as the mercs.as i recall,in it’s first few weeks (1986) when new all the back brakes came apart, causing damage to the axle casing.driver peter lewis was heading north and limped into sun works where it was put back together.i cannot ever remember any injector problems .just silly things like air leaks etc.as sammy dog said,it was a high geared performer .the main reason she was on the vilvoorde bones job,was because she had tipping gear.the ferries were no problem,in my experience it was the office staff in the old oostende freight terminal, who used to get the hump with us smelly trailered welshmen
regards andrew.

hi keith,
i will ask my mate, peter lewis about the injector problem,he had her new.joint had a brilliant foreman fitter adjhumal kahn, nothing was laid up for long whilst he was in charge .with regard to the sale,as i remember, towards the end of 1991,malcolm harrison bought d675 and a couple of 401’s.i can remember seeing it the following summer in southampton dock, painted yellow pulling a scrap bulker.
regards andrew.
pete 359:
in my opinion this motor and driver trevor williams would have done more trips abroad for joint than any other.
now theres the best truck i ever had with joints regards martyn.
hi martyn,
i know i am biased, but the 1635 was far better than the erf.you should know, having both of them, one after the other .
regards andrew.
can only remember her breaking down once coming off coal w/bridge in abbey went into crawler mode adj came out put new fuse in radio and away to go. regards martyn.
pete 359:
this trailer never did the bones, you would only get 10 tonnes on
hi andrew i remember tipping coil in that trailer inside bay it was raining quite heavy so in my wisdom tried to tip to get water off sheet ,could hear some cracking and creaking got out could nt see anything so went in took sheet off and the sides had bowed out ,had to get the crane driver to thump the sides in with the coil .i had to back load salt to wenvoe luckily i managed to tip the salt without the body snapping in half dont remember what happened to that trailer after regards martyn.
