Joining the motorway.

what about the cars that stop half way down the slip road and then start indicating
anyway my policy is
if they are indicating i may move over if there is room
if they are not indicating
i stay on inside lane even if i have room to move into lane 2
they can either accelerate , stop or slow down and get in behind me

Give the car drivers a break. One or two rep mobiles per day deliberately try to upset other traffic, but the rest of them are just not used to motorways. They mean you no harm. Much worse than car drivers are the stubborn “It’s my right of way and I’m not coming off the limiter” type of lorry drivers. I’ve got you all in check. You stubborn right of way long in the tooth drivers are whats wrong with the industry. Retire you old reactionary ■■■■■ and stop giving the rest of us a bad name.

I know I’m being turncoat here, but over the past 6 months I have come to accept car driving behavior as part of the job, but those who should know better … ie most of you on this forum … you drive like ZB ers. Chill out or quit.

I anticipate them in good time by going ‘main-beam’ at the first inkling that they’re duff.

‘…Bringing in a compulsory motorway test would be a start…’

That’ll be ‘Further Training’ then :exclamation:

Maybe society could recognise such advantage and have it reflected in a cheaper insurance premium.

Maybe our succession of sycophant & spineless UK Governments are waiting for the EU to enforce it?

‘…every on/off slip road on our motorway network should have cctv on them…’

More Big Brother? Do us a favour, mate

Reubs766:
‘…there should be some kind of secondary test for all motorists before they’re permitted to drive on motorways…’

Sounds like another advocate for Further Training: So the answer appears in favour for the EU to introduce a (ahem) Driver’s Certificate of Competency* :unamused:

*Edited to helpfully suggest it be known as a D CoC

Ched is 100% correct, the standard of lorry driving that I have seen is getting worse, admit I am no angel and have some good and bad days,it gives the good guys a bad name,in the Somerset Standard a Doctor has written in to the readers letters page to say how the death rate involving LGV accidents has risen, but his facts may be from the time when there were no ABS braking and his facts may be out of date by 20 years, but the public will believe a Doctor, he quoted that LGV `s can go at 60 mph on a motorway.

Bringing in a compulsory motorway test would be a start.

And how would that work for people living in the far north of Scotland or the Shetlands etc etc?

I’d be keen to learn of any such response from the pugnaciously offensive Mr Alex ‘Pro-EU’ Salmond, in his ‘always wanting to cosy up to the one-size-fits-all diktats’ of Brussels - since that’ll be from where the answer will probably one-day emerge

They would Travel to Glasgow / Edinburgh.

Sorry Ched I’m not biting you are trolling or talking out of your rear and either way I don’t care.

Ched:
All tests and tuition whether its car, motorbike, hgv, psv should include motorway driving

Think you’ll find that PSV and HGV tests can include a bit of motorway driving, depends on the examiner on the day on which route he takes you on…
Besides if you get to the stage where you’re wanting HGV or PSV lessons and never driven on a motorway before then there’s something wrong…

Totally agree, Apart from the retire you old ■■■■■ bit.
I think the ones that make issues about everyone else are the ones that have learned the job from a book. They havn’t started in a van, then a 7.5 tonner, then an artic. they come straight into it without any real knowledge.

Simple solution. No motorway tuition then you’re not allowed on the motorway.

I remember my first motorway drive. I entered the motorway in a Vauxhall Astra at 90mph. I was like a kid in a sweet shop :grimacing: :grimacing:

Flat out I got 105mph out of it. Was only a 1.2.

But you’re allowed on a dual-carriageway…which has the same speed limit as a motorway.

And how many 70mph dual carriageways did you go on during your test ?

The test is too easy, I never went above 40 on my test. How does that prepare you for the M6 or A14/A34.

Already mentioned but they would just have to travel.

Its not abnormal or too much to ask for people to have to travel to gain qualification(s) in the work place or for university students etc etc

Travel or don’t have the appropriate licence. End of the day it would only affect a miniscule proportion of the population.

Had this recently on the m2 where a people carrier ambles languidly along the slip but not showing the slightest sign of integrating in any way,not even a signal to be seen.I maintained position due to the furious ammount of traffic approaching behind me and escorted the prick up the hard shoulder with the rationale that he was paralell to me,but not level and thought nothing else of it.

Imagine my suprise when further up the m2 this cretin attempts to stop me me on the motorway several times by jamming his brakes on,I move to and fro into the lanes available for evasion and this maniacal scenario continues with traffic all around us and inside his car are 3 or four kids staring back at me as though thoroughly enjoying this exciting game their father was laying on for their delight, thats right the ■■■■ heads prepared to use these childrens very lives to reinforce his belief that the motorway isn’t an ego free means to harmoniously make progress but his own personal fifedom where his will remains paramount. It may be a cultural thing.he looked like a recent African arrival and I guess we just have to adapt to their mores even on the roads.

This drives me mad so many people haven’t a clue when joining the motorway or main road it’s worse than middle lane drivers for me

It does boil the blood somedays and the doodlers that have got all the time in the world completly unaware of their surroundings and traffic conditions and a strange thing is a passenger clutching on to a map and holding a print out from the internet for their arrival point.

So which of our diversity loving, political directors is gonna be the ‘not allowing’ daddy when it’s a odd-ball & nutter’s freefall race to the bottom out there :unamused:
