John's End to Land O' Groats: How long?

Having a really boring motorway trip in my truck this morning and watching sports relief last night i wondered how long would it take you to haul a load from Lands End to John O’ Groats assuming no major traffic holdups setting off from Lands End at 9am Monday morning. How long would it take? How many times would you have to stop for rest and/or re-fuel driving a renault premium 520bhp with 250 ltr tank @ 44t gtw

A: Complying with all drivers hours regs.
B: If limeyphil was driving :exclamation:

Has anybody actually ever done this before

In a car you could probably do it in one hit with the support of red bull and pro plus :exclamation: :open_mouth:

cheers

I reckon you could just about do it in two shifts.

Just punched the details into autoroute:-

Approx 850 miles:-

@ 50 mph average = 17 hrs driving

@ 40 mph average = 21 hrs driving.

Haven’t done the lands end/John o’groats thing, but I once started out from St Andrews at 7.00am Friday (in a truck), drove to Shepshed, dumped the truck, drove home to Leicester, packed a bag/loaded up the car and drove to Newquay, arriving at 01.00 hrs Saturday morning.

You did well there Harry.

874 miles. :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

I have driven from Land’s End to John O Groats in my Datsun 180B but I went to Land’s End one year and JoG the next year so my mileage would have been higher.

JoG was good, very wild and desolate but LE is an appalling overpriced over-commercialised tourist trap.

The record for a cyclist, yes that lot again, is 45hours.

Actually, I’ve just spotted the Freudian slip in the thread title

I was there in 1984 and only the hotel was there… it’s still modest compared to Land’s End tho…

not been down there yet but can imagine

Lands End is a big rip off.
The company who run it aren’t particularly popular down here.
They’re not allowed to charge an entry fee as it’s classed as land to which any member of the public is entitled access to.
So,they charge for parking.
The Lands End management co. had a dispute with it’s next door neighbour, farmer a couple of years ago so the farmer put a sign up in his field, right beside the entrance to Lands End,saying
‘Park Here For Free And Walk Into Lands End For Nothing’

probably queing to get a picture of the truck with the john o’groats sign behind it.

Me and my youngest lad have done the truck to JoG, with a big smelly used muckspreader on :grimacing: ,
Isn’t there a sign on the approach road that says something like ‘‘SLOW DOWN you have reached the end of the road’’
I’ve been within a couple of miles of Lands End in the truck, but the weather was dire and I was on a tight schedule so didn’t bother, but one day :stuck_out_tongue:

"Isn’t there a sign on the approach road that says something like ‘‘SLOW DOWN you have reached the end of the road’’

didn’t see one ,someone probably nicked it.
