the company i work for,and other firms around the area are nearly always short of drivers and advertising on the buses and in the local papers or on thier websites so whats the score with the unemployed{ not just hgv drivers] is it the training etc that puts them off or the unsocial hours, dealing with the good old general public, shift patterns or what? hourly pay rate is a bit more than hgv rate on average ,about £8.50 to £9.50ish around here with 45 to 48 hrs the average rostered week.i realise its not for everyone but why is the job that unpopular?
I chose to go on the busses in 2000, thought it’d be a decent career…
Since then, I paid and got my HGV licence…
God, I’m full of bad mistakes
Personally myself I would drive coaches but wouldn’t be a bus driver due to dealing with the public like school kids, young lads thinking they’re the bees knees etc etc.

And whhat do you think most coaches do?
Schools, kids to swimming baths, kids to sports days, morris dancing competitions, national express, rail replacement etc.
I dont like people
I started with one large bus company and grew to hate it
Did my class 2 and went on Tarmac tippers- loved it
Had a nipper who has been unwell and needed late shifts and flexibility
I now work for the other large national company and have been driving Thier “low cost” inter city 50foot coaches for last 18 months @ £10.25ph which isn’t a bad job
Howeve it’s not a truck and iv started my lessons for class one upgrade

The job seems to come with free abuse.
Yes the hourly rate is better. But you are lucky if you can take home more than 300 in a week due to the hours not being there.
I recently trained with a large national bus company and enjoy it. But it’s definitely not going to make you rich.

I wouldn’t do it, I still have some self respect.
…Seen on the back of London Buses…
Earn £500 per week
(with overtime)
Self-explanatory really why there’s a driver shortage eh?
Omit the small print bit, and you’ve just about got a job worth buggering around in London for…

Cos it’s a ■■■■ job!
I’m a london bus driver and the job is utter brain damage!
I have got to the stage now that I hate everyone.
However, the job is very secure.
Driving a lorry is much easier.

You’re not alone. Just don’t say owt on Face-ache!
i’d do it. but why do we have to learn to drive a bus? it’s smaller than an artic.
why does a coach driver need to learn to drive a class 2?
money. and for that reason i’m out.
You sound like one of the Dragons lol
