Driving a bus is not all bad, also for the younger folk you dont get the 2 years experience nonsense.

I’m a london bus driver and the job is utter brain damage!
I have got to the stage now that I hate everyone.
However, the job is very secure.
Driving a lorry is much easier.
+1!

Who the [zb] would want to drive a bus. You’d need a full frontal labotamyDon’t knock it till you’ve tried it
I’d rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.
they have been good to use given my situation at home…work is guaranteed and fully flexible, especially in manchester as we run a 24 garage but i definately prefer my own company in a truck
nothing wrong with bus driving did ti for years in London, I never got grief of the public, refused to pay just said get on but bus aint moving and switch off the engine, tell them #i was doing a CODE RED, which was calling the police normally got them off bus.
as said regular work nice to do shift work etc know what time you was getting home better paid than truck drivers.
Arriva London, are misleading the 1st year yes you might get 500 with OT but then every year the wage goes up until year 3 when your on top wages.
Bus driving gets you free travel on buses trains tubes in london cant be bad can it!!
Used to drive 'deckers in the 70s, the old guys used to say,“The only difference between a bus and a dustcart is the rubbish walks on and off by itself”.
I enjoyed my time on the buses. Was hard work but not a bad job.
Nowt wrong with bus/coach driving has its plus and minus points remuneration, hours, job satisfaction, ect ,ect
have been on both sides of the fence pcv driving suits my life style at the moment. Even on the coaches you get complete a$$holes its how you deal with it that makes all the difference.
I try humour and if that dont work then you have a problem on your hands but as most coach drivers will tell you these incidents are few and far between
on the money side of things
my P60 shows over 28,000 this year and thats before tips optionals shortbread sales CD sales commitions ect ect
never gonna be a millionaire but i work for a small family company (around 30 coaches) and i get looked after
we get paid every hour from clocking in to clocking out a lot of firms only pay when you drive on a spreadover shift
like the op says dont knock untill you have tried it.
I drove buses and coaches around London for approx 6 years. The money on the buses is great £12.63 per hour Coaches was only £8.50P/H but the clientel was a hell of a lot better but longer hours.
Moved to Edinburgh 2 years ago and drove buses here until now (been made redundant ) and the money for £9.84 P/H but going back on the coaches from Monday for £11P/H so cannot complain at that at all
As said in another thread though I am looking to get on the HGV’s at the end of the year possibly.
The job in general is a good one, and it really does depend how you treat the punters which depends how they treat you.
I can tell you now, it does not matter how polite you are to the passengers in london, they are still rude/abusive!
The actual driving of the bus I don’t mind, the company I work for are very good, and I don’t mind the shift work.
LOL Sorry I meant the people in Edinburgh. HA HA HA HA HA your lucky if anybody even talks to you in London.
In london nowdays, there are plenty of people who can’t speak the English TO talk to you!
I drove buses in west yorkshire for 2 years about 10 years ago. i enjoyed the job and the company was good to work for but i hated the people who used them. the company ran through a fairly deprived area and was well known for drivers being attacked and windows broken. Im much happier driving hgvs even if the money is less.
After watching them two videos that would put me off getting on a bus let alone drive one!

Well, I did London for £10 / hr in 2003, so you earned MUCH more than me, coaches usually a lot less than £8.50 / hr.
Busses round here are around the £9.80 / hr stage so that sounds roughly the same, but god knows what you’re doing for £11 on coaches, cause that’s the stuff of dreams unless they only pay you ‘driving hours’
Either way, I’m sure I wouldn’t consider giving that up to drive a truck for £6.20 an hour, but sounds like you’d find the firm that pays £15 / hr on boxes
I drive big blue coaches for a mega national company, I’m on £10.25 and £11.25 after 7pm as a regular late man…why assume he’s lying?

Pfft, busses. I’m pretty sure I know which company you’re talking about, have used them a few times when I want to arrive late in London, schedules are a joke, rather you than me
Coach driving isnt bad, thats why Im going back to it

It suits some, just not me. And I had a really cushty (if low paid) job in coaching just dealing with air crews.
Also, done other sides of coaches, schools, baths, rail replacements, airplane replacements, protests etc.
Most of the time, the toilet was locked due to the type of hire, but sometimes it was open as part of the hire, which then meant draining and rinsing the toilet.
Doesn’t matter who you’ve got on or which way you go, after they’ve had a beer, some muppet will come and tell you that you’re going the wrong way.
I like to have a sing when I want, a ■■■■ when I want, stop for a brew or ■■■■ when I want, so I’ll stick on trucks thanks.
