Thursday - Monday or Friday - Tuesday tramping?
So no time at home at the weekend, whatsoever, ever?
Average pay.
Where do I sign up?
This is ‘normal’ in supermarket la la land apparently?
I think I’m beginning to see why there might be a driver shortage in the future when the young 'uns want to party when there’s work to be done!
It’s not uncommon on the retail side to have drivers work weekend shift patterns, it does suit some people and I have done it myself for a period. Uncommon though for it to be tramping I think.
I now work Friday to Tuesday every weekend but not for that money plus that is a PAYE rate so even less actually reaches the drivers pocket. I know hourly rates are regional but up here they would be looking for drivers all year round

They are down here as well!!!
One of my agencys have them on a 12 week temp to perm. I declined
(I’ve also heard from someone local to them who is not in the industry that they treat their drivers like brown smelly stuff)

Dont think I would like to tramp in a day cab ( unless they pay for hotel / b&b )
It’s illegal to do that.
Its illegal to do what?
I think he is saying that it is illegal to tramp in a day cab. It is certainly illegal to take a daily rest in a cab which does not have a bunk.
Mike knows exactly what I meant. He’s just got his rod out…
You should make it clear. I’m uncertain what you mean, although i could guess. Its fine to tramp in a day cab, its fine to stop in a Hotel , BB.
I “think” you mean …you can’t take a daily rest in a day cab? Then you’re gonna quote some legislation to say so? That’ll be the same piece that says, or intimates, you can’t have a weekly rest in one either, did i get that guess right?
Anyway, in keeping with the OP, B+M is hard work. Its not for softies like me who just want to do easy high miles and open a few box doors, or doors onto a bay and kick back. Its a bit of graft, its retail deliveries with all its problems same as anywhere, tight spots, congested town centres, parking restrictions, tail lifts, crappy loading bays from the 1960’s and you gotta wheel it all off and in yourself. If your about 25 years old and about 18 stone and fit it won’t be a bother. If your 50+ and looking for a cushy number with all your experience it wont float your boat probably.
Didn’t float mine anyway
Yeah, i’m fully aware of that legislation. I never said any different. Thats the same one that says you can’t have a regular weekly rest in a cab?
BTW, what did you google to get that link from a NI Department of Environment website ?

Can’t remember although it isn’t really relevant, NI is part of the EU. And yes, by omission the legislation does say that you can’t take a weekly rest in a cab, I believe Coffeeholic has explained it in some detail.
I always thought it was merely undesirable to sleep in a day cab, same as it is undesirable to not get paid for all the hours you are at work, because you’re uninsured, and all that… I’d say there’s little enforcement upon those employers who’d put collars on us all if they had the chance, so pretty much anything goes these days for the “captains of industry”, lest it put off the “foreign investors” (why TF do we need foreign money anyway?)
