Whats with the job?? Never known it as bad, was thinking of keeping on going until March before I sell it but FFS. My lot are mad busy on long term contracts so I dipped My toe into the cesspool that is general haulage I even did a āback loadā ā ā ā ā Me am I glad I went down for the right money & wasānt relying on that load of ā ā ā ā .
So Iāve put it in Trucktrader & come the end of the month Iāll de-tax it & pull the insurance, hopefully Iāll have moved it on by then anyway.
25 years at it this month as an OD so for my quater century I was treating Myself to a āCards Inā job & it canāt come quick enough given the state things are in.
How are the rest of you getting on with your lots so to speak? everyone I talk to are saying its quiet.
ā ā ā ā to put it bluntly. Done 3 local jobs so planing on one more or getting one up the road and getting in front but nothing doing. Had a ring round but nothing better elsewhere and even been talking to contacts back in the tipper game and itās about the same.
Boxes are quiet, unless youāre a rate cutting, ā ā ā ā ā ā ā clearing house.
Had a big batch of Colchesters this week, whichāll be finished tomorrow, then a bit of shunting iāve just picked up.
Other than that thereās ā ā ā ā all. Even the flatbed works died a death. Canāt compete with the clearing houses when it goes quiet!
Ay up Goaty I saw your Volvo on Monday morning pulling out of the parking, I was the bloke nosed in parked like a dogs hind leg!!! Looked fine at 10 pm Sunday night
Itāll get going soon enough I suppose but not soon enough for Me to bothering I hope
I loaded out of that George Baker Goaty FFS what ā ā ā ā . One of Edgewicks had run from Hounslow to Felixstowe to load wire for Witney, the driver said it took Him 3.15 hours to get there, youād never think it of an outfit like that would yaā ā ? Around 8 hrs of work & driving to get back to where you started for what Ā£320 if He was lucky!!! & then drag it up to Oxonā¦Words fail Me at timesā¦

if i do manage to get them out im struggling for load home, im actually turning work down also for the flats because customers arent preperd to pay a premium rate, so unless its more or less an area i can get a returnload from then they can bide in yard
Had 8 trucks four years ago, still got 8, only running three now, rest are parked up and will be for sale soon, just cant make a profit on general any more, im only doing specialis.t work and crane work now,its very bad out there, and i dont think it will be getting better any time soon.fuels too dear, competiton too fierce, payments too slow, i used to work for the same job that edgeworths do, i pulled off, the outward rates were too low !

the rates are dreadfull pal, less money than 5yr ago,too many of these so called clearing houses around,
I used to run 4 or 5 a few years ago double shifted with trailer swaps and I was proper caning it in. Iām down to 1 now with 1 driver & myself and just making a decent living at it. Fuel is what Ā£1.18 per litre now and itās only going one way and thatās sharply up. I still enjoy the job and thatās why Iāve stuck it out rather than drive for someone else, my work is easy though, if I was doing some of the tat ODās do, iād knock tomorrow.

Correct me if im wrong , but i agree with too many clearing houses , But if subbies stopped pulling for them they wouldnt get the work and the customer would look elsewhere, the clearing house companies charge you for the privaliage of using a trailer also, its win win for them,
Fly Sheet, sorry to hear that you are packing it in.
Fwiw, my job is in a bad way and just doesnāt seem to be getting any better. Iām planning on gettin out later in the year. Too many trucks, not enough work etc, etc. Iāll have done 7 years this year but for me (barring disasters) Iāll be done by August.
Tippers seem grim hammer Iāve always been in the waste game until going on general a few months back.
Had a beer with a mate last night finding out how tippers are as I was looking at getting back in to it and when he started talking rates and fuel used its as bad as general.
Iāll be sad to see it go kr79 its a good lorry, its going to be abused by a friend of a friend who ended up with my old FH16 which Iād spent a fortune on so He knows its a good one before He gets it.
Iāll maybe regret getting rid, or maybe not, just got to give this fresh opportunity a real crack this time & given the state of the job the timings right this time. I went last time & left a bloody good job behind I canāt say that this time so its less baggage to drag about.
I just hope I get the permit or Iāll look a reet knob end
