Stobarts are a good employer and forward thinking.
The prison service is a joke, it’s going backwards. All jails will be privatised soon, They are paying £15-£16k for new starters, So corruption is rife.
Corruption is a good thing on my side of the fence.
But maybe not for you.
I don’t know how you have handled that job for so long, Five minutes of listening to “Boss, Boss, innit, Boss”. Would be more than enough for me.
Have a word with the governor, There might be a chance of voluntary redundancy.
Hmm, might be worth looking into it then. Maybe it is calculated over an average but as the allowances are tax free they might not be added into the equation when calculating holiday pay? Maybe I’ve read it wrong as to how they work it out.
I think it is actually done over an average, just looked at a recent wage slip and for a days holiday I got slightly more for a days pay than a basic 9 hours.

Sounds about right.
The allowances won’t be taken into account - they can’t pay you a meal allowance when you’re sat at home, and certainly not a driving bonus
As I said above, I’ve no idea how the weekend working comes into it, because I was told it was ‘when paid all hours at a basic rate’ and your weekend rates are (slightly) enhanced.
A lot of firms did an 8hr guarantee and then paid a little over (time + 10p or whatever) so that overtime was classed as an enhanced rate and holidays would only have to be paid at the basic 8hrs rate

Last week was contacted out of the blue to attend assessment/interview at Stobart Automotive Doncaster tramping position Mon to Fri , cut a long story short was offered the position the day after, having thought about it nights away etc not for me so contacted Stobarts to explain they offered me an interview at Sherburn working days Tue to Sat, Interview this morning and they offered me the job.
I’m now trying to get my head around the pay from what i’ve read on here it’s not the best but would like to hear from anyone who works days for them so i can get an idea of what i’m likely to be earning.

Or you could get a job earning that money without any nights out!
Dafman:
Take it and don’t listen to all the Stobart haters, a lad I know after working for a good company, went to stobarts 4 on 4 off and loves it, for a start you don’t see many tatty old wagons on there fleet, I doubt you will be breaking many rules working for them, alright you have to wear a green uniform, who cares and then there is the obvious rubbish off other driver’s, if you don’t try you don’t know.
… and let’s face it you can pay many a bill if you’re in a posh motor!
The pay there is well known so I won’t go into it. It’s poorish money made to sound good by extras that aren’t part of your wage. Depends if that will suit you or not. Personally, it wouldn’t. But you’re not me, and if the job sounds ok to you, then go for it.
There not exactly posh motors there just ordinary wagons, but seen as you appear to have worked there do tell us more about the pay and working conditions.
I must confess to having never worked there so I cannot really comment on the conditions, except from secondhand knowledge. The pay however, is well documented on here and elsewhere - and I have known a couple of drivers that have worked at Stobart’s - both direct and on agency. The S/E lads can earn up to double the regular rates, though not many have the balls to ask for it.
The comment on the motors was a little tongue -in-cheek. Stobbie’s trucks are generally Skodas/Volvos with utterly naff vinyl graphics all over them, as I’m sure you’re aware. My point being that no matter what the truck is, you cannot pay bills from it, only from the wage they pay you to drive it. For me, the truck would be low priority, and as long as it’s legal, I’d take better pay rather than a new motor every time.
The pay structure seems quite clever. They pay you all the bonuses, night out money etc. when you’re at work. Then effectively take a chunk of them off you again when you’re on holiday or if you’re off sick. If there’s no overtime either, that’s outrageous, given the rates are so low per hour. But it’s each to their own. If you’re happy with it then do it. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks

Little white lies get you no-where nowadays. Everything is checked
My reason for leaving last employment in my application was… “Dismissed after Bulker body detatching from chassis via rear pins on a public highway. Not action taken by police or vosa against driver”
Oh I know what you meant about the motors that was me stirring it, It baffles me when drivers say, as above, £600 a week but then go on to say that, that is with nights out, I have never included any benefits in my wage after all you have food and parking to pay for.

It doesn’t baffle me. The wages for tramping or non tramping are broadly speaking the same. The “extra benefits” you get for tramping is specifically what attracts many drivers to do it in the first place.

Exactly, I obviously won’t include expenses like parking I’ve paid out for, but night out money is part of the wage for me.
Maybe not. John Lewis were paying it incorrect since 1998 according to the article and only found out and changed their system when it was pointed out to them by a new starter.
“The organisation based its holiday pay on the contracted weekly hours for staff. However, the Working Time Regulations legislation states that holiday pay should be based on the average hours and pay collected by staff in the last three months.”
Yes. Correct. Based on the last 12 weeks. It is based on what pay you have been paid. It it not just calculated on basic less bonuses etc. It is what you have earned in total for those 12 weeks, inclusive of bonuses.
As a side note, when your looking at things as weekly. When doing calculations see a year as 13 pay periods per year each of 4 weeks. I used to pay my staff that way, they preferred it as they never had a long month before being paid.
This is what i was sent by stobarts two weeks ago, as i had an assessment/interview at the rugby depot.
hope it helps you mate. 350 mile commute each week is the only thing that put me off going.
