hello there i was driving dustcarts in council i had holiday pay all etc ,now moved to solihull and driving hiab lorry(renault 18t. mgw) job is ok but company do not pay holiday pay just 7,5 ph on hand thats it,no overtime, uniform ,cash on hand, was thinking to go and find proper job but its so hard.not too many jobs .maybe i should do artic ticket maybe ADR?
not sure how about pension there as well and time goes fast…confused
and today they asked me to sign paper that says if accident on road is my fault then 500 quit insurance excess out of my pocket, just great, never had accident but that just gonna stress me up
stick with it but look for something else , job situations much the same up here ,and i wouldnt leave a job without another to go to
i know ,leaving job its risky business you may regret it
Tell them to stick it.
leave the truck in a ditch first, or sell it in leu of holiday pay and overtime.
they’re shafting you, so shaft them too.
Doesnt sound like a very good set up… There are good companies out there though so dont give up, class 1 ticket will hold you in good stead although i personally wouldnt bother with adr.
Crap money and conditions, the insurance bit is well dodgy get looking for a new job and get the hell out FAST !!
I recently redone my ADR 4 months back , I’ve not used it yet but it did count towards my Cpc so 2 birds with one lot of cash …
Stick with the job until something else comes up…
Get your name down with an agency; Don’t go by what jobs are on their website, neither of the jobs I’ve done were advertised. I don’t think I’dve applied for either if they had, but I’ve enjoyed them both nonetheless (have sent a cv to one of them).
i have cpc i have done it 2 years ago and only 7 hours till now still 3 years to do rest of hours,
think will do artic licence for 950 just received leaflet from school in kent and will look for some job then…
was gonna save for a car but will do licence.can wait for long runs in artic lorry, me,radio and road.
always thought being alone so long in truck freaks you out…maybe not?
This is the second thread in as many days about people being asked to pay an insurance excess are you all ■■■■■■■ mental? You don’t own the truck, you are not responsible for its insurance payments ffs. You are being took for a ride you know what next time you get your cash in hand wages which also sounds dodgy as, crash the truck into the biggest tree you see and walk away from it and find a proper job. Ive got the feeling they wouldn’t want the police involved.
why tree? lamp post better no harm to environment, and more spectacular, unless u want me to dump it from the bridge into river.all i could say would be —so sad to see it go
Dodgy companies that ask drivers to sign these agreements must have cheap insurance when they have to try these gimmicks. Eddie.
An Essex based agency I went to for an interview with recently had a £750 insurance excess hidden in their application! I said Thanks but no thanks!! Wasting time agencies!

Agencies that do this wouldn’t survive if all drivers did as you did dessy.
Sadly, too many drivers are too stupid to realise that they can say no when they are being shafted.
Never, EVER agree to pay ANYTHING for an accident. I would agree to pay £0.00 and no more. If all drivers did this, there would be no company that would get away with it. I rather have no job than work for a bunch of scum bags.
We have to pay the excess (up to a grand) at our place.
It comes out of our incentive bonus, which is 80 quid a week.
All the lads at our place are used to this arrangement. It’s a total non issue.
5 years of bonus amounts to 20 grand.
In that five years I’ve had about £500 in damage costs.
Any other firms have similar incentives?

That’s fine, because it’s a bonus based on you not crashing, not you paying the excess out of your wages.
Last place I worked for had a £500 thing but contrary to what others have said they were also the best firm I have worked for. They generally only made anyone contribute if they were driving like an idiot, as an example one had to pay after rolling an empty van on a roundabout. I was there 5 years and had a few bumps including an expensive jack knife in the truck but never had to pay anything.
The place I am at now has a quarterly bonus which pays out if you haven’t caused any damage in the 3 months prior. It amounts to the same thing really even though they class it as a bonus, you cause damage and you lose money.

Are you self employed ?
If not why don’t you get holiday pay, I thought it was law that companies have to pay holiday pay

It’s also law to pay tax and NI… Are you naive or just joking? He’s being paid ‘under the table’ if you like…
Pay insurance excess on a vehicle belonging to somebody else?
Absolutely not, under any circumstances as everybody has said.
This stunt makes me feel uneasy about the future - if this catches on…does your employer walk slightly bow-legged, have a big hat and make a ■■■■■ ■■■■■ noise when he walks? Strikes matches on his stubble?
And quite a few shunts are debateable in the blame department, then what happens?
You know what you’ve gotta do fella, leg it rapido and work for a proper employer with holiday pay, NI and PAYE.
Oh yeah, and don’t forget the ol’ contract!
Let us know how you get on.
