Your bringing back memories now Raymond. Vehicles and faces of old, I’ll need to dig out the few photos of Torness and the weekend bridge build at Aberdeen and put them on, if I can sus out how, cheers Jim.

Hi jim is this mr B? AH says helloo how are ya … do you still have greyhounds?

I’m intriqued with that shell of motor rusting away in the yard and I don’t seem to recall it in
Hunters colours or indeed it operating for Hunters at all. It does remind me of one that ran
until at least the late seventies by either Greer or more likely Kerr (Bros ?) from Holytown/Mossend
and i’m being serious when I say the driver was pushing his eighties and still doing a days work.
He wasn’t known by name around Wishaw but was well known by the fact that his wife was his junior
by at least 3 decades and they, and their young family ( honest ) would come into town every Satuday
from their smallholding in nearby Hyndshaw for shopping in his wagon. Equally well known was his
speed of 30 mph. Everywhere. 40 mph stretches and National Speed areas meant sod all to himself
and it may have been co-incidental but his return home just happened to be the prime time for
the Hospital visiting  As I said he was well known.

Have a look at the photos and see if they jog memories and are there better pics of it out there?..jim

Right im on war path Who is the Chicken come on own up Gave pictures to someone and they never appeared up on here  and jcc where the aberdeen bridge beam piccys and Torness come on chaps get them up or is the story true you all need ■■■■■■ these days

Trophyblue Iv’e been waiting to give someone else a chance to speak, like do I get a keyring ? If a tiebreaker is
required I’ll hazard a guess and say wink was the other car driver

Here is a before and after shot of the Sed-ak. Was it repairable or re-cabbed ?

And who remembers 1 (or 2) of these 8 wheelers (photo by bubbleman) arriving from Hogg of Kilsyth. They where almost identical
in colour to the original Hunter livery. A younger brother of mine, having came out of the army, worked there for a short spell
and was on one of these for a time. One day I pulled into the Riggend cafe, Airdrie, and he was in the car park. It was obvious
he’d been in for some time and when I asked him if was coming for a cuppa he hummmmd and haaaaaawed then believe it or
not had to sqeeze himself out of the driver door window and re-enter likewise. Turns out there had been a problem with the
doorlock and had been jammed shut with a 2x2. An Arthur special  . It was repaired at a later date. I believe this ones
registration to be KSS 721C. Could be wrong. It was a bonny wagon by anybodys standard…jim

Here is a before and after shot of the Sed-ak. Was it repairable or re-cabbed

Top Shot was Taken at Dounreay Nuclear Power station Driven by Bill Kerr with a 66ft column taken around 1979/80
The bottom shot At Kitchener Street .After someone from management left the handbrake off to go and answer a call while it was unmanned ticking over built up air and ran away down the street. Lucky enough the little shop at the corner stopped it before it got to main road (Dryburgh Road) that was around 1983/84

That wasnt the photo i was talking about But will leave a Keyring and Pen with C.S.M
The Cars Were own by
Red Rover was Soutars
Blue Volvo est Was Arthurs
Navy Cortina Est was Spoonys
And the Navy Cortina At side workshop was Davy Douglas’s
I think the Red Truck i think came from RDL

Hi you Hunters guys in the late 70s I followed one of your ERFs up the slip road at Penrith he was loaded with girders and I had to stop at the top and the A6 round a bout and at the first bend on the 66 he had gone through the wall and the girders and shot forward and gone through the cab and embedded into a tree and the driver was trapped by his foot as a girder had knocked the fixed seat forward and others had gone over his shoulders and we could not move him as his foot was trapped under the clutch pedal otherwise not a scratch on him so somebody was smiling on him that day I am sure it was when the gritters were on strike as we could hardly stand up it was so icy when the police came they moved us on as I had not seen it happen but only seconds behind him I often wondered if the boy continued driving after such a near miss. cheers Johnnie

Hi Johnnie
Yes that was JUS 771N Driver was Campbell Sneddon the truck it on here before and after if you go back up the page it coupled into 3 Yellow Coal Screens and directly opposite next red truck was the load of beams that he had when he hit the tree there a picture of the truck on here as well with back of cab minced And Yes he continued driving for a number of year then , he started up a garage fixing cars where his is today In fact i was talking to him today and im going to see him tommorow il mention this to him Kind Regards Ray

Hi Ray sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner when you where on, it’s just I was having a scratch about to see if I had some more pics but they are definately in the hens teeth category. Do you think some subbies and other related photos would open it all up a wee bit. In the meantime you’ve found the old beast and she’s still around if only just. Maybe Campbell could be talked into a big restoration job, he once said he would consider doing a Marathon :unamused:

Here’s one who’s driver hasn’t had a headache for many a year and the blurb says it wasn’t retired until the early 70s, having gave almost 40 years service, well it must have been hiding in the steelworks or somewhere because I certainly would never forget having seen it. I’ll have another little dig…jim

My Dad drove for Hunters his name was Sandy Thomson. supershunter. He drove BGM 6wheelerERF. He was at Hunters in the early 70s.He worked with Wille the wink Terry Watty Alexander . Does any one Remember him. Thanks

Sandy, Now that you have had a chance to look over these couple of pages does any of it ring a bell? I never worked direct with Hunter but there were periods when I was there or thereabouts on Subbi-ing/Traction only type of work so got to know the guys quite well. I’m popping in to see the mechanic early this week and he himself was a Driver/Mechanic there around that time, and he in turn keeps in touch with some ofthe old gang, so we should have some info hopefully then. Of course as I said a lot of the lads look in here just to check so you may get a better reply sooner.
One little thing I should ask. Do you have any photos that you would share on here? Any you may have would definately go down a treat regardless of condition.Keep looking in on this thread because it’s pretty well established now and it’s quite easy to lose new threads within a day or so :unamused: …jim

Thanks for helping me with this. My dad is no longer with us  , and all the names on your pages I remember him talking about them.
