Hi Richard yes i remember those motors although it was before i worked there, the maudsley was bought
brand new brother Jack had it for a while i remember going to Liverpool with him i would be about 8 then.
It came has a 4 wheeler it was later converted to a twin steer, it was 1964 when i started there they had
mostly Thames Traders at then there was about 6 twin steers 4 six wheeler’s the rest were 4 wheeler’s
plus 2 mk 3 8 wheeler’s . Jack had a lot of photo’s of crows old motor’s but some how they all got lost
His son as got some photo’s he keeps going to send me but so far they have not arrived.
I enjoyed my time at crows i learnt a lot working with Keith bell hand some other good lads.
Regards Dave.

Hi Dave, the photos i got of crows were from Leo Horsfall when he worked there. You mentioned Keith Bell i also got some good photos from him he used to come up to our yard when we were at oxenhope to help us out most weekends keeping the guy warriors going ,the AECs didn,t need much more than a service though.Ihave a photo of Keith and my dad stood by one of the AECs i,ll sort it out and post it on here.
Cheers Richard.

Could be ex BRS or Longs ,where did you find it ? , a great pic by the way

Hi Ramone, cant remember where I saw it,   ,but you are right,it is a good photo.
I really like the old Bradford/Halifax area lorries.
Regards John.

Well I would say IMO Its defo a Ashworth AEC, Its got a Bradford reg for starters & the shelf over the cab I would say its an early 50s motor, I used to see them on Liverpool docks regular in the good old days, Plus their drivers were a great set of lads to talk to, Not like present day drivers, Im retired now & I miss the crack & the banter, But as the good old saying goes all good things come to an end, Regards Larry.

I think this could be an arthur ingram photo,i have a copy ,it,s typical of a bradford wool wagon though .The reason for the double bumper bar was mainly to shorten the canopy stays because when you got a ton of wool on the lid [above the cab] it used to sway about so shortening them made it more stable ,they made a good second bumper bar though. It wasn,t just ashworths who fit them most bradford motors had them ,bell,s fit them we had them on our guy warriors but never fit them on the aec.s.This motor could have been on for Fielder,s they had a lot of this type of work besides doing wool.

Here,s a shot of one of our guy warriors after it had been cut down from a 4 wheeler into a tractor unit when not on wool we did general haulage this is a load out of green,s in keighley foundry equiptment for the midlands then probably into tipton for a load of press packs back to bradford.

Hi Richard remember the the old guy used to see it parked on Thornton rd parked
outside bells and also the AEC was it a mercury 4 wheeler or 6.
Regards Dave
P.s. we will have to get together sometime.
