That would be the days when the Post Office and Royal Mail and the GPO were all different companies would it not? Wasn’t the GPO vehicles that awful green colour?

I can remember green vans Post Office Telephones, Some with there spare wheel on the near side door, 40/50s Era Regards Larry.
In those days the General Post Office (GPO) covered the lot with red vehicles (including eight leggers). The Royal Mail was the delivery part, carrying “His or Her Majesty’s Mail”, covered by Royal Charter. Stealing mail was at one time treason and warranted hanging. It gave the Mail Coach absolute right of way. Even in more recent times “Distraint of H M’s mail” was a very serious offence. The green vehicles were Post Office Telephones aknowledging the addition of electronics to moving information. All started by King Charles to kep an eye on what was being sent.
