Jacks Hill Cafe Gathering 2013

Bassman:
Marshman

That would be the days when the Post Office and Royal Mail and the GPO were all different companies would it not? Wasn’t the GPO vehicles that awful green colour?

Bassman

I can remember green vans Post Office Telephones, Some with there spare wheel on the near side door, 40/50s Era Regards Larry.

In those days the General Post Office (GPO) covered the lot with red vehicles (including eight leggers). The Royal Mail was the delivery part, carrying “His or Her Majesty’s Mail”, covered by Royal Charter. Stealing mail was at one time treason and warranted hanging. It gave the Mail Coach absolute right of way. Even in more recent times “Distraint of H M’s mail” was a very serious offence. The green vehicles were Post Office Telephones aknowledging the addition of electronics to moving information. All started by King Charles to kep an eye on what was being sent.

You’ll get on well with Glen with a memory like that.

Poor Glen!
Classicman, are you going to Jacks Hill? Wont be there myself, unfortunately.
If so, Bob & Glen might gang up on you, so watch out!
Alex

Hi, All

If the wind stays at it’s present strength those attending Jack’s Hill on Sunday won’t be bothered by exhaust fumes !

Bassman

I only go there for the exhaust fumes ! I’ve forgotten what it’s like to stand in a yard full of Gardners firing up.

Sounds like Jacks Hill will be going back in time to the "good old days " on Sunday. Hope every one enjoy’s the day.

Bassman

Looking forward to being there. Hope the weather today carries on to be as sunny as it was last year. Hope they have finished ‘mending’ the M1.

Marshman,

Keep to the period , use the old roads, ( the “Goat Track” ) and leave the M1 to itself.
