Jacks Hill Cafe Gathering 2013

My good friend, Glen McBirnie. of Rugby (Rugby Cement & Asda) is one of the organisers of this event.
If you live nearby or fancy a day out, why not drop in for a cup of tea and a natter.
All welcome for this free event. (No, not the tea!)

Photos by kind permission of Jim King, Billericay, Essex, another friend of Glen’s.

Alex how are you, what is the date is it. Went last year but unable to get there until midday.

Sunday April 21st. Alex, I’m glad you pointed out that although the event is free the tea isn’t. We don’t want to get Glen worried, you know what his wallet’s like!

Jacks Hill Gathering 2012.

Unfortunately we won’t make it this year, but we enjoyed it last year.

April 21st,that’s ‘Drive-it’ day.hopefull get down there in my Triumph Herald

Highly recommended. A low key event with plenty to see and people to meet. Carryfast-yeti, apart from the trucks/lorries with the location of Jacks Hill you get a good selection of classic bikes/cars calling in all adding to the day.

Guys, due to some sort of technical fault, the image of the flyer advertising the event has vanished from the start of the topic. I replace it here.

Classicman.
Oor Glen is a Fifer!
Letting someone else pay is his reason for living, hence the saying we Scots have ‘You need a Lang Spoon to sup wi’ a Fifer!'.
He is a Classic example of the Scotsman, who, at his Mothers knee, learned the old adage ‘Mony a Mickle maks a Muckle!’.
You dont need a translation,do you?

How are you doing yourself? Personally, I’m enjoying my retirement and wish I had done it years ago.
Hope to see you at BRS 66 next year.

And there’s me thinking it was a side effect of all that Irn Bru you lads drink!!

Need a translation ? I live very near to Corby, the Scottish colonial outpost in England!!

Classicman

Glen needs the odd Irn-Bru to wash the cups of tea down. He’s not balanced right unless it’s a glass of Irn-bru in one hand and a mug of tea in the other!

Cheers Bassman

Depending on the weather (if and when cricket season starts) we will bring a couple of tractor units as didn’t make it last year due to the low loader being stuck on the unit (we eventually realised what we had been doing wrong a few weeks later as you always do with classics!)

What time is the event on until please?

I don’t think there is an official finish time. The event is very free and easy and sort of like goes on as long as people want to stop and talk/drink tea/eat /take photos/kick tyres / talk about yesteryear / give up trying to get a cup of tea out of Glen.

Was there after 12.00 a lot had gone, but still a few there had chinwag two of the lads on wreckers and a few had just retired, my old mate Bagdad Bill took me over and took a few photo’s. Will have to cadge a lift or catch a bus to get there.

Great day out. This is a must for anyone who remembers the ‘good old’ no tach, mend it with a bit of wire days. Especially for those vetrans of “The Goat Track” when the cafe was the Towcester Towers.

Hi All

Although I shall not be attending the gathering at Jacks Hill I will get a full report from Glen about the day.
I did think about putting a cup of tea behind the bar for Glen and then thought he would rather have an Irn-Bru with me next time we meet.
If last year was anything to go by it will be a good day.

Cheers Bassman

What was the “Goat Track”?

Cheers Bassman

In my early years of driving ('55) the winding, meandering A5 was known as “The Goat Track”. A title I think given it by Harry Kelson when he edited the Headlight.
